On the next edition of Fiber Hooligan (07/08/13) my guest will be designer, teacher, author and illustrator Franklin Habit. Franklin is the author of It Itches: A Stash of Knitting Cartoons (Interweave Press, 2008) and proprietor of The Panopticon, one of the most popular knitting blogs on the Internet. On an average day, upwards of 2,500 readers worldwide drop in for a mix of essays, cartoons, and the continuing adventures of Dolores the Sheep. He recently founded Yarn Shaming, because while he loves yarn, yarn does not always love him back. Franklin’s varied experience in the fiber world includes contributions of writing and design to Vogue Knitting, Yarn Market News, Interweave Knits, Interweave Crochet, PieceWork, Cast On: A Podcast for Knitters, Twist Collective; and a regular columns for both Knitty.com and Lion Brand Yarns. Several of his independently published designs are available via Ravelry.com. He travels constantly to teach knitters at shops and guilds across the country and internationally; and has been a popular member of the faculties of such festivals as Vogue Knitting Live!, STITCHES Midwest, Sock Summit, and the Madrona Fiber Arts Winter Retreat.I'm very excited that he could fit the show into his very busy schedule. I hope you'll join us for what should be an historic episode.

The book of choice is The Power of Habit: Why We Do What We Do in Life and Business
In The Power of Habit, Pulitzer Prize–winning business reporter Charles Duhigg takes us to the thrilling edge of scientific discoveries that explain why habits exist and how they can be changed.
Distilling vast amounts of information into engrossing narratives that take us from the boardrooms of Procter & Gamble to sidelines of the NFL to the front lines of the civil rights movement, Duhigg presents a whole new understanding of human nature and its potential.
At its core, The Power of Habit contains an exhilarating argument: The key to exercising regularly, losing weight, being more productive, and achieving success is understanding how habits work. As Duhigg shows, by harnessing this new science, we can transform our businesses, our communities, and our lives.

In the era of "political correctness' Freedom of speech that reflects the Judeo-Christian ethic is under great attack in a country founded by those principles. Can you imagine in India people being warned not to talk about Buddha? Can you imagine in Iran the government saying you can no longer honor Mohammad? Yet in America you are now persecuted for praying and declaring the name of Jesus in the public square. How did it get here? The church became cowards.
