Because Jamie Oliver’s food programs originated in England, the question is, are kids there now choosing to eat healthier foods? If not, what is turning kids on to better-for- you meals there? Or, are they eating them at all? What about the school lunch programs – have they improved? Or, are moms in the United Kingdom dealing with the same struggles of how to feed kids as we do in the United States? Our guest, Katharine Tate, known as “The Food Teacher,” is a qualified teacher, nutritional therapist and “mum” who has worked with children in schools located in the UK, New Zealand and Hong Kong. She’ll tell us about food programs that do work, such as educating parents, “Cookery Schools” and inspirational Head Teachers. Judging from her recipes and family health tips, Katharine is innovative while focusing on nutrition, well-being and fresh and flavor-filled recipes that appeal to the whole family. These include: Citrus Mango Coco Bites (dairy free), Cinnamon Apple & Vanilla Cashew Cream (Dairy Free), Cauliflower Rice, gluten free/no added sugar chocolate brownies, Tomato & Lentil Soup (winter is coming), Parsnip Hummus… just a few of her treasure chest of delicious healthy ones kids will eat!
Come into our Family Food Experts Kitchen with Katharine, Carolina and me as we take you on a trip to England for some great food ideas for kids! Thursday, 1pm ET, on W4WN.com and W4CY.com.

Feeding skills develop like all others. Today's Brains in Toyland features Diane Bahr, MS, CCC-SLP a feeding expert and speech-language pathologist.
We'll be talking about what parents are often surprised to learn and addressing commons they have.
We'll review the stages of feeding development from birth to 12 months of age so parents can learn when and how best to introduce different foods and liquids to children in this age range.
You can learn more at Ms. Bahr's website, Ages and Stages, through her newsletter and two helpful books "Oral Motor Assessment and Treatment" and "Nobody Ever Told Me (or My Mother) That! Everything from Bottles and Breathing to Healthy Speech Development.

Welcome to Youth Speak! This program is all about amazing children doing amazing things! Things...that make the world a better place every day! Katie Stagliano had a dream and that dream was that there were no hungry people! Tune in and learn how one cabbage seedling from a program in her 3rd grade class in 2008, turned into a 40 pound cabbage that began her journey of serving the homeless population in her state of South Carolina. Today she is 16 years of age and her project, Katie's Krops, continues. She says her gardens are grown with love, help from volunteers and donations from wonderful supporters. Would YOU like to help? Katie has a Wish List which we'll share in today's program.
What happens when 128 cozy mystery writers get together to do a cookbook? You get more than 220 recipes that are as varied and interesting as an amateur sleuth’s day job. Regional recipes come from every part of the United States and England — a couple find their way from Australia and Italy, too — and from diverse times. There are recipes from people looking to keep gluten out of their lives, eat vegetarian, or make a treat or two for their furry four-legged friends. And yes, there are recipes that appeal to the sweet tooth, lots of them, in fact. There’s no mystery about what happens when cozy writers get together. They bring the wit, inventiveness, and adventure found in their books right along with their recipes. The recipes are introduced by their authors and linked to the writer bios in the back of the book. You can look up your favorite cozy writer and see which recipes are their favorites; they'll tell you what the recipe means to them. Or you can enjoy a dish and then link to the recipe's author's biography and books. Either way you enjoy the cookbook, you're sure to find great new recipes to make and terrific new cozy authors to read
