Have you ever wondered what vampires, truant officers, firefighters, the sexual behavior of active retirees, genealogy and lie detection have in common?
Well today's fifth episode of Boomer's Plus Radio brings all of those topics together into an exciting 60-minute program designed for you--the active retiree.
Shannon Bell speaks with co-hosts Lois Podoshen and Mark Newhouse and reveals the rationale for her blood-thirsty predilection.
And what happens to a retired school teacher and truant officer that decides, at age 62 to become a firefighter. Is he out of his mind? You decide.
The national pastime, at least for most baby boomers, is not necessarily baseball. It's acquiring or retaining a relationship that doctors say will keep them healthy and happy as the years go by. And if that relationship should include sex--well, so much the better. Pat Jocelyn starts a continuing series that you definitely won't want to miss.
Our genealogy guru, Bev Hulett, and former FBI lie detector expert, William Warner, round out this exciting fifth edition of Boomers Plus Radio. So sit back and tell your friends and family that this program and others are archived at http://www.BoomersPlusRadio.com

I come from a long line of Thomas's who were the full bloods of the original Keetoowah society. I was given my name by a Powhatan sundancer and pipe carrier. I am the last living elder in my family. We become an elder at 52 and 1/4 years. I am 59 now.
I am a traditional mens dancer, a pipe carver and carrier. I teach native culture overseas to bridge gaps in the understanding of our traditions. My teachers were Ojibwa, Navajo, Kiowa Apache. My Clan is Wolf. My color is Red and my wood is Hickory. I am a Viet Nam vereran ( former USMC 1st Marine Div. grunt ) I served 15 years as an Advanced EMT and Class 1 firefighter in Cochise County Arizona and Northern Indiana.
I don't beLIEve. I know. Here's what I know. We are born in a dream. We live in a dream. It is not until we "die" That we awaken. Not everything is a conspiricy. Most of our prophecies have come true. There's no such thing as death. There is an afterlife. There's also a beforelife.
There are UFO's and Aliens but they prefer to be called star people. Some are good and some are not so good. There are spirits. Some are good and some are not so good. There is a need for a great purification of this Earth. It will come and it will be soon. We all have a destination. It's called home. Earth is a short stop over for us to see how we handle assholes. ( so far, not too good ) I know everything and I know nothing. I have a sense of humor.
The International Society of Fire Service Instructors (ISFSI) leads fire and EMS instructors in their efforts to reduce firefighter fatalities and injuries, increase firefighter safety, and improve the profession through education and training. ISFSI supports instructors through educational opportunities, networking, mentoring programs, leadership opportunities, instructional resources, and legislative representation.
EMS is tough. Lots of training, stress, patients, families and even supervisors all make a days work in the EMT/Paramedic life. But what about when your very own partner is a total ass. Maybe to you, to patients or even other health care professionals?
How do you handle this type of personality trait? If you have been in EMS for a bit you are sure to have been exposed to some extent a partner like this or may even still are.
Join us for this episode as we talk about ways to deal with these "partners" on a personal and professional level.
We will also be answring some listener questions and maybe even a few hot news topics thrown in for good measure.

Tonight's special guest is Kimberly Toth-Lajzer from North Carolina, an Art Instructor at the North Carolina School for the Deaf in Morganton who runs a program described at Art4aPurpose.Org. She's also the author of a new series of books using Art to help children connect to their feelings, emotions and instincts about sexual abuse. She grew up in what she describes as a "typical, wonderful, normal household," her father a firefighter, her mother a homemaker. The four kids enjoyed a solid middle class upbringing. At least that's how it appeared on the outside. But behind closed doors things were different. "We constantly fought. My father and I got along like oil and water. My parents were Alcoholics, and my dad loved to keep my mom sedated. I thought the emotional abuse, neglect, and occasional physical abuse was all I endured. I was proud of myself the night I finally stood up to him. I stood nose to nose to him even after he flipped over the kitchen table." Escaping the family by going off to college, she quickly established a tumultuous relationship. "We went 5 years without speaking." She married and moved to North Carolina at 23, an instant family in tow. Years went by before a series of memories started coming back. "I was 43, working with a special needs boy that found my body voluptuous. That was the end of my denial." There was no turning back. "My husband looked at me and said, 'For the first time in our lives I finally understand you.' And he helped Kimberly me get help. She went through counseling, and began to use her Art to survive. "I was trying to figure out the implications of my sexual abuse, I did not want it to have happened in vain. I began focusing on how I could use my experiences to make a positive difference."
