Celebrate Autumn with family fun. Hands-on participation in good times together provides a sense of belonging and value for children. Fall is full of possibilities for being together and enjoying situations where parents and children can delight in doing things together. In the process, children know they belong and will collect more pieces to build their positive self-image. Kas has written three books with fall and Halloween ideas for families and children.

Founded by mother-daughter entrepreneur duo Katie and Sheila Weiford, the Kookiedoodle arts and crafts studio provides a safe, fun and bright environment for children to work with stencils, decoupage, felt, paint and more. Children can decorate a beeswax candle, try out sand painting, and explore other mediums too.
The studio also opens its doors for events and private birthday parties, as well as team-building exercises for business people.
We do the holidays differently on the west coast. It's tough to navigate where to go in the spread-out southland. And, it's sometimes hard to know what's going to turn out to be the best choice! WIth limited time and (let's face it) kids in the car, we've decided it's important to narrow down the best of the best.

It's happening. Two shootings in two seperate incidents in Canada have let Prime Minister Harper to urge Parlaiment to rethink 'thresholds' on where the bar is set when it comes to what law enforcement needs to be able to arrest and indefinitely detain citizens who are suspected of 'contemplating' "terrorist" activity. You heard that right. Canada is joining the fear-based McArthy-esque whitch hunt against their citizens now.
What civil liberties Obama gutted, slipped into a defense spending bill, with the NDAA in 2012, the Harper administration is now pulling a snow job on the people up north. Welcome aboard Canada. Are you awake yet?
Meanwhile, hockey will be nudged out of the national pasttime and replaced with Parlaimentary Committees on Un-Canadian Activities.. Guess who's coming to dinner.

Tonight's special guest is Laura M Parks from Chandler, Arizona, child abuse and DV survivor - author of several books including, "Under the Broken Halo," "A Promise to God: The Story of Pastor Cam Iverson" and "Alias 'The Rose': Though the petal may fall.....She shall never be forgotten." Being brutally raped by her older brother, molested regularly and beaten by her father, emotionally abused by her mother, and molested by other family members, led her down a very destructive path. "By my teen years I didn't know which way was up and dreamed of either dying or running away." She says. "I married men like my father, domineering, abusive, and controlling. Between marriages I hung out with bikers in dimly lit bars engaging in activities that were less than appropriate for a mother of young children. I made some bad decisions and the cycle of abuse continued in my children." One morning in February of 2009 she woke up and said "enough is enough." She decided to start living instead of just existing. "I had faith that I could finally become a whole person and started making arrangements to move on with my life," she says. "The day I left my third husband, he was waving a gun in my face threatening to blow a hole in anyone that came on "his" property. Even though I was terrified and shaking, I refused to back down from him. I packed my stuff, got in my car, and drove away from the nightmare." Laura concludes, "I listened to my voice inside, prayed every day, stayed strong and never looked back. My mission is to inspire others to become survivors and stop considering themselves victims. If I did it, so can you." As Laura says, "We don't have to stay victims, we can all become survivors."
