S.E.C. Gets Plea: Force Companies to Disclose Donations S.E.C. officials have indicated that they could propose a new disclosure rule by the end of April, setting up a major battle with business groups that oppose the proposal and are preparing for a fierce counterattack if the agency’s staff moves ahead. Two S.E.C. commissioners have taken the unusual step of weighing in already, with Daniel Gallagher, a Republican, saying in a speech that the commission had been “led astray” by “politically charged issues.” These same people have criticized the President for killing American Citizen with a drone strike on foreign soil?

F4F Ends With Four Foursomes (Part 2)
Tags: fan fiction femslash lesbian writing television
Now that F4F has not only marked its fourth anniversary of being on the air, but also entered its final month of broadcasting, we’ll be spending all of June celebrating that which made this program great. Don’t worry, no self-congratulation here, of course I’m talking about the guests. For each show in June, we’ll have on four (and occasionally five) guests who made at least one prior appearance to talk about what they’ve been up to since then. Maybe they’ve continued to write fanfic for the same television show. Maybe they’ve moved onto something new, and moved again. Maybe it’s original fiction now. Or maybe they’ve stopped writing altogether. We’ll also be returning to the show’s roots by hosting shows weekly instead of biweekly, so that’s sixteen former guests, each speaking for fifteen minutes at a time. Tonight we’ll begin with Adm_Hawthorne (who first appeared on F4F on 2/6/2012) at 10 PM EST, followed by Milk_and_glass (8/6/09) at 10:15, Ariestess and Shatterpath (9/10/09) at 10:30, and Mooncat (7/16/09) at 10:45 PM. Tune in, because really, someone just might be talking about whatever thing you love best.

Let's Clarify this Past Week
by Its Your Gavel liberal talk in Politics Progressive
Tags: Consumer spending forward movement wages consumer confidence interest rates
Robert Reich Said “Just look at the bull market! Look at home prices! Look at consumer confidence!” The more sobering reality is this: Almost all the forward movement in the economy is now coming from consumers, but wages are still going nowhere -- which means consumer spending will have to slow because consumers just don’t have the money to keep going like this. Consumer spending rose 3.4 percent in the first quarter of this year, according to new figures from the Commerce Department, but the personal savings rate dropped to 2.3 percent — down from 5.3 percent in the last quarter of 2012. We're now at the lowest level of savings since before the Great Recession. And as consumer spending slows, so will the economy. Home prices are rising, but this isn't good news because they’re beginning to rise above their long-run historical average. (Before the housing crash they were were way, way above the long-run average.) The Fed is keeping interest rates artificially low, allowing consumers to get low home-equity loans and to borrow against the rising values of their homes. The stock market is soaring mainly because corporations have slashed their payrolls and are keeping them low.

Genetics and Poltical Behavior

Are we pre programmed to be Liberal or Conservative? Some say Liberalism is in the genes . The idea has come from the fact that too much spending with little control comes from somewhere. According to researchers at Harvard and University of California (San Diego), ideolgy is not affected just by social factors but by a dopamine receptor called DRD4. James Fowler, Professor of political science and medical genetics, conducted the study that found that people "with a specific variant of the DRD4 gene were more likely to be liberal as adults." However, the, subjects were only more likely to have leanings to the left if they were also socially active during adolescence.
