    FUN4daMental - Felisha Bradshaw

    in Books

It has taken what seems like a lifetime to be able to express my creative thoughts in a way that reflects my experiences and knowledge. My fascination grew when my mother gave me a book to read; Manchild in the Promise Land by Claude Brown. From there, I ventured into readings such as Rainbow Jordan by Alice Childress. These authors captured the struggle has been within the urban community through generations. But when I picked up True to the Game, Coldest Winter Ever up to Project Chick and all of Kwan’s writings I then realized that not only has struggle played a forever existing role in African American’s lives but has allowed us to create a world outside of rap music where we can tell our stories and experiences in black and white. We are shattering the myth that black folx don’t read with each turn of a page. The world of urban fiction has opened the doors for voices that normally would never have been heard. I started expressing my views in reference to urban life through poetry, inspired by Maya Angelou, which turned into short stories then "Eyes on the Pryze." Currently signed to Queen Midas Books and penned her sophomore and Jr. books SISTAH CIRCLE 1&2. Coming in March the sequel for EYES ON THE PRYZE will drop titled 69 DEGREES. So watch out Urban Fiction there is a new pen in town and it’s being held by, Felisha Bradshaw.

    in Books

    BIO

Mz. Mimi, of Chicago, has been writing poems and short stories since the age of 12. By the age of 16 then living in a group home she’d decided she wanted to write be a writer. She started her first book several times talking herself out of finishing it each time. One day shortly after turning twenty five she was on the phone with her best friend, Toya of 11 years, discussing several of her past life issues and struggles she’d overcome when Toya said “Mimi you should write a book about your life, that shit would be a bestseller.” That day she started writing Love Vs. Loyalty, which she finished in a year and a half. She still wasn’t sure she’d publish it until May of 2013 when a close friend happened to find it laying around her house and read the whole thing in one sitting. After some convincing Mimi decided to send out her manuscript to several publishers just to see what would happen. Within 3 weeks she’d received five offers and decided  on La’ Femme Fatale’ Publishing which she signed a contract with July 4, 2013. Mz. Mimi is currently working on her second book Love Vs. Loyalty 2: J.R.’s story as well as three other books all inspired by life events. She is also a fulltime student who is graduating May of 2014 from Ivy Tech State College with her Associates degree in Human Services and has a strong belief in God.

John Bradshaw on Mature Love and Intimacy after the Romance

    in Current Events

John Bradshaw, visionary counselor, theologian, bestselling author and addiction specialist, will be sharing his new book Post-Romantic Stress Disorder:  What to Do When the Honeymoon is Over.  If only people had a little more direction, guidance and support to understand mature love perhaps there might be more marriages lasting a lifetime.  Love changes but no one really speaks about those changes and how to keep the flame alive in a relationship that spans decades.

Are you thinking more about what you don't have in a relationship rather than all the great reasons you are with another person?  Has the glamour and glitter worn off from your marriage and no parties, vacations or fancy intimates are going to rescue it?  Perhaps a little talk about what love is, how you can appreciate the good times and support each other when the going gets tough is needed in every relationship.
