Our guest is Chris Hellman, Senior Research Analyst from National Priorities Project. Our topics will include: Federal budget basics, what's going on in Washington including the latest budget action, what's happening with sequestration, and what's going on with Pentagon spending.
About Chris Hellman Chris joined NPP after serving as a military policy analyst for the Center for Arms Control and Non-Proliferation where his work focused on national security spending, military planning and policy, base closures, major weapons systems, trends in the defense industry, global military spending, and homeland security. Prior to joining the Center, Chris spent six years as a Senior Research Analyst at the Center for Defense Information. He also worked for two years as a military budget specialist at Physicians for Social Responsibility.
Previously, Chris spent ten years on Capitol Hill as a congressional staffer working on national security and foreign policy issues. Chris is familiar with all aspects of the federal budget process. He is a frequent media commentator on military planning, policy, and budgetary issues and is the author of numerous reports and articles. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Middlebury College in Vermont. He joined NPP in August 2009.

"Federal Europe" to be a reality within a few years; Jerusalem mayor says no to Palestinian rule in
1. According to The Telegraph of Great Britain, European Commission president, Jose Manuel Barroso, said a fully fledged federal Europe may seem like "political science fiction" today but will soon become reality for all European Union countries whether inside or outside the euro.
2. According to The Times of Israel, Jerusalem's mayor Nir Bar-kat has ruled out any notion of Palestinian rule in the capital and says it is 'ridiculous' that Jews can't pray on the Temple Mount.
3. According to the Washington Times, the Department of Homeland Security said that Middle East and North Africa based criminal hackers are preparing cyberattacks against the websites of high-profile U.S. government agencies, banks and other companies. The department said the attacks, dubbed Operation USA, are set to begin this week.
4. According to The Associated Press, President Bashar Assad's regime has given a Palestinian militant group the go-ahead to set up missiles to attack Israel in the wake of recent Israeli airstrikes on the Syrian capital.
5. According to the Associated Press, China launched a peace proposal amid visits from the leaders of Israel and the Palestinian Authority, in a sign of its desire for a larger role in the Middle East.
