Judges 6 Living Bible (TLB) (Roughly 1191 BC)
6 Then the people of Israel began once again to worship other gods, and once again the Lord let their enemies harass them. This time it was by the people of Midian, for seven years. 2 The Midianites were so cruel that the Israelis took to the mountains, living in caves and dens.
3-4 When they planted their seed, marauders from Midian, Amalek, and other neighboring nations came and destroyed their crops and plundered the countryside as far away as Gaza, leaving nothing to eat and taking away all their sheep, oxen, and donkeys. 5 These enemy hordes arrived on droves of camels too numerous to count and stayed until the land was completely stripped and devastated. 6-7 So Israel was reduced to abject poverty because of the Midianites. Then at last the people of Israel began to cry out to the Lord for help.
8 However, the Lord’s reply through the prophet he sent to them was this: “The Lord God of Israel brought you out of slavery in Egypt, 9 and rescued you from the Egyptians and from all who were cruel to you, and drove out your enemies before you, and gave you their land. 10 He told you he is the Lord your God, and you must not worship the gods of the Amorites who live around you on every side. But you have not listened to him.”

    in Music

If you peruse www.desotoguitar.com, you will see a LOT of information about Jay Soto - our next guest on "Hybrid Jazz."  And it's fascinating.  Not only an intense guitarist, but a composer/arranger/producer/pianist/music instructor/Church music director - well, it will make you dizzy :)

Through his respected career, Jay has had associations with a myriad of other artists who recognize his unique passion on that guitar.  Fluidity.  Fearlessness AND reverence.  He has played with Acoustic Alchemy, Everette Harp, Candy Dulfer, Jeffrey Osborne and more.  Because of his palatable ideas transformed into songs, his music has been heard on HBO and NBC.  He has also had the honor of being a Grand Finalist in the "Guitarmageddon" competition, one of the most awesome in the world. Jay performed in front of 15,000 people at Eric Clapton's Crossroads GuitarFest in Dallas, Texas.  That huge victory, combined with his success on Contemporay Jazz charts, have defined him somewhat.  But this deeply spiritual man will tell you that what TRULY makes him the talent and the person that he is - is God.  Jay's Catholic faith is at the epicenter of "Veritas" - a new album that will enable you to feel his belief - whether YOU believe or not.  Soaring, serene, thrilling in its scope and lovingly pieced together, this work is unapologetic, totally authentic and blissfully one-of-a-kind :) Get to know Jay.  To do so may change the way that you perceive your new year ahead.

Just My Thoughts with Graffiti Bleu.

    in Entertainment

I walk in spirit with God's wind at my back... I think out-loud and I share those thoughts with critical thinkers. Today's thinkers just happen to be 2 beautiful females. Carolyn Blackey and Dyvacat are 2 very different versions of the strong woman. One is an accomplished poet and theater performer; The other a self professed communicator and entrepreneur with a talent for being in the right place at the right time. The spirit lead me to these ladies to instigate a dialogue about fearlessness and courage.

Banish The Victim - Bring passion, detachment and fearlessness into your Life

    in Self Help

In the east, the illusion our ego projects on the world is called samsara, which is nothing but an ephemeral ocean of stories; the mind seeking meaning and purpose, floating endlessly on the rising waves of karmic patterns, yet behind this whole show lies the simple truth of what we are: unconditioned awareness dreaming itself in a myriad of forms awaiting its unveiling. Once we as a seeming fragment of this awareness take birth in this self-projected reality, we cannot escape the pain of our destined roles. Whether challenging or gratifying, these roles define our life’s journey. The good news is, every role we play, can become a tool for us to realize our true nature, if we only discover how to utilize our role for cultivating greater awareness.

Unfortunately due to ego identification, instead of utilizing the role, the role utilizes us. We begin to feel like a victim, either despising the role or clinging to it. To truly fulfill and enjoy our worldly role, it is important that we have both a passion for and a detachment to our role. So how do we do this and fulfill our role gracefully?

In today’s show Paula and her guest Rashminder Kaur will talk about how we can shift our perspective from that of a Victim to Fearless, and how you can cultivate passion and detachment to live a full life enjoying the multitude of roles we are called to play.

HOST:  Paula Horan Ph.D. (LaxmiDechenWangmo), is an American psychologist who lives in Asia. A Reiki Master for 25 years and an author of 8 books on meditation, alternative health, and non-dual awareness. Her new book Fierce Innocence, which conveys the wisdom of her Jnana Yoga retreats in fostering a radiant self-confidence, is now available at amazon.com/author/paulahoran.

In last week's Confidence Episode, Nicole defined confidence as a feeling of self-assurance arising from one's appreciation of one's own abilities or qualities.

    This week's episode expands that!

Nicole experienced being coached with Dan Sullivan's incredible definition of confidence. He states, "Confidence is the ability to transform fear into focused and relaxed thinking, communication, and action--with a result that dangers become opportunities, obstacles become innovations, weaknesses become advantages, and setbacks become breakthroughs." This robust definition at its heart implores you to examine your circumstances, create a right thought that creates a positive feeling that propels you into Next Right Steps that give you serious results.  Again, in this episode we'll dive deeply into the self-coaching model:

The Sea Beach Line: A Novel ~

Set in post-Giuliani New York City, The Sea Beach Line melds mid-20th- century pulp fiction and traditional Jewish folklore as it updates the classic story of a young man trying to find his place in the world.
After being expelled from Oberlin for hallucinogenic drug use, Izzy Edel seeks out his estranged father—a Polish Jew turned Israeli soldier turned New York street vendor named Alojzy who is reported to be missing, possibly dead. To learn about Alojzy’s life and discover the truth behind his disappearance, Izzy takes over his father’s outdoor bookselling business and meets the hustlers, gangsters, and members of a religious sect who peopled his father’s world. He also falls in love.

As Izzy soon discovers, appearances can deceive; no one, not even his own father, is quite whom he seems to be. Vowing to prove himself equal to Alojzy’s legacy of fearlessness, Izzy plunges forward on a criminal enterprise that will bring him answers—at great personal cost.

Fans of Jonathan Lethem’s Motherless Brooklyn, Nathan Englander’s For the Relief of Unbearable Urges, and Michael Chabon’s The Yiddish Policemen’s Union will relish to Ben Nadler’s combined mystery, love story, and homage to text and custom.

The Burden of My Red Lips in Tehran, w/ Iranian-American Shaghayegh Farsijani

    in Culture

"The Burden of My Red Lips in Tehran,” by Iranian-American author Shaghayegh Farsijani

Shaghayegh Farsijani is a former reporter and anchor, turned author and poet. She has traveled extensively throughout the world and has finally returned to her hometown of New York City. After publishing her collection of sensual poetry, she decided to share her story as a young woman during some of the most heated years in Iran's modern history.

Shaghayegh states, "When I returned to Iran with my parents in my late teens, I embarked on an exciting and life-altering journey. This story is based on my true life experiences of moving to a culture rich in history but torn by religious controversy. I was firmly grounded in the Western culture of my formative years, which began in Brooklyn, NY. I plunged through transformational challenges in Iran and guarded my Western identity. This novel is my story of how an adolescent girl—equipped only with fearlessness and without true life skills—sets goals and begins a journey with insurmountable odds."
