Fathers of Conscience
Mixed-Race Inheritance in the Antebellum South
Join Author Bernie D. Jones for an engaging discussion about her book - Fathers of Conscience - Mixed-Race Inheritance in the Antebellum South.
Fathers of Conscience examines high-court decisions in the antebellum South that involved wills in which white male planters bequeathed property, freedom, or both to women of color and their mixed-race children. These men, whose wills were contested by their white relatives, had used trusts and estates law to give their slave partners and children official recognition and thus circumvent the law of slavery. The will contests that followed determined whether that elevated status would be approved or denied by courts of law.
Jones is Associate Professor, Suffolk University Law School. She is a graduate of the New York University Law School and the University of Virginia Department of History.
We welcome poets from any and everywhere to slam their poems honoring fathers. Listeners may share special memories of their farhers on the air or simply listen as we pay tribute to those very special men, biological or not, who nurture and raise children on this open mic epjsode of Poetic Soul Talk Show.
My Guest today is the host of "Hour of the Truth" Jorg Glisman from Belgium. We will be looking at the Bible and Freedom of Consience.
Attempts to preserve the fundamental rights of religious freedom and conscience have been met with scorn by many for different reasons. Some simply don’t understand the issue. Others refuse to accept the rights of religious people whose values leave no room for their sexual practices. There are some Christians who, tired of “culture-warring,” seem eager to bend the knee to ideas and behaviors that conflict with biblical values.
What is religious freedom? How does it relate to conscience? Is it biblical or is it a notion with no basis in scripture, contrived by right wing religious radicals to serve selfish ends?
Dr. Annie Abram and Armin Brott, a fathering expert and the author of many books about fathers will discuss the importance of fathers in their children's lives. Although, there continues to be a stigma associated with "care-giving" dads, through out last two decades the role of the father has been increasingly recognized as just as important as that of the mother in determining the well being of children in every aspect of their development. For example, the involvement of a father in a girl's life is instrumental in how she thinks about herself as a woman, a worker,
and increases her confidence on every level. Of course, this is true for boys as well, largely through gender identification.
A former Marine, Armin Brott has devoted the last 20 years to providing men with the tools, support, and knowledge to help them become the fathers they want to be——and their families need them to be. His eight critically acclaimed books for fathers have sold well over a million copies. Titles include The Expectant Father: Facts, Tips, and Advice for Dads-to-Be and The New Father: A Dad’s Guide to the First Year. He has written on fatherhood for hundreds of newspapers and magazines and is a frequent guest on such television programs as the Today Show. He also writes a nationally syndicated newspaper column (Ask Mr. Dad), and hosts a syndicated radio show (Positive Parenting). He lives with his family in Oakland, California.
Greetings! Join me, Doctor Dayciaa Smith, for an episode of Divine Experience celebrating fabulous fathers on Sunday, June 21, 2015 @ 5:30 pm CST. I will talk about P.O.I.s for the week, give personal updates and share some important life lessons and advice that individuals have received from their fathers throughout the years. Our focal topic for today is on "Earthly Fathers, Godly Men," and we will examine characteristics of Biblical fathers and how they relate to the essence of fatherhood today, and most importantly, the extraordinary qualities of our Heavenly Father. Tune in for this show to honor the blessings you've been given though and from your own father!
Sunday's Daddy's Day! It's time to do something special for the Fathers we love, and comfort those that lack the paternal parenting some of us were blessed to enjoy. In years previous, we've done shows on overcoming and acknowledging a "Deadbeat Dad".
This year, we focus on one huge, common factor for most guys that will eventually be labeled "Deadbeat Dad" (their age). We will discuss how he can avoid a "Deadbeat Dad" situation, and of course we will celebrate the Fathers in our lives that seem to have gotten it right.
Join us this week for.. "Can Teen Boys be Fathers?" with Jonathan DaCosta ...on The Erik Terrell Show

June 21, 2015 CECISFM want to say thank you our Father the Late Bobbie Bowens Sr. and John Welchel of American Cast Iron Pipe (retired) and the Father's who support us each day Enjoy !!!
What some might not know is that the celebration has a religious history born out of tragedy
Grace Golden Clayton, a resident of Fairmont, West Virginia, was the first person on record to petition for Father’s Day. In December 1907, a mine explosion in a nearby town killed more than 360 men, many of them fathers. The tragedy left 1,000 children fatherless, which troubled Clayton.
Father’s Day has become a day of gift-giving and relaxation for many, but that is far from the original intention behind the day,
" Father’s Day is to acknowledge the importance of close bonds, loving relationships and unconditional love that endures all the joys and pains, ups and downs of human relationships,"
President Calvin Coolidge supported the idea of a national holiday in 1924, but it wasn’t until 1972, when President Richard Nixon made it a federal holiday, that it became permanent.
Are African American fathers less involved with rearing of their children than Latino and Caucasian Americans? If so what do you think the impact is or will be? Join us in the Media Blast group on FB by clicking this link https://www.facebook.com/groups/1615819348630372/
