Newcomer Gets His Game On in "Heroes Reborn" - Meet Toru Uchikado

    in Entertainment

The Total Tutor Neil Haley will interview Toru Uchikado.

Newcomer Toru Uchikado makes his television debut in the epic 13-episode event series “Heroes Reborn” from creator/executive producer Tim Kring, who also imagined the critically acclaimed 2006 “Heroes” series. Premiering September 24 on NBC, the series chronicles the lives of ordinary people who discover they possess extraordinary abilities. Toru plays ‘Ren Shimosawa,’ a young Japanese gamer who’s storyline unfolds as he joins ‘Miko’ (played by Kiki Sukezane) on her journey of being a “Hero.”

The Japanese actor was born in New Jersey, but moved back to Japan as a young baby. Raised in Yokahomo, Japan, Toru grew up watching American movies and became fascinated with the industry. With Japanese as his primary language, Toru came to the states to study English and Business and learned to speak English at the age of 21. Uchikado returned to the states in 2011 (Los Angeles) to study acting—a passion he discovered while taking classes in college. Toru’s first major acting role will be this Fall as he plays ‘Ren Shimosawa’ on NBC”s “Heroes Reborn.” He hopes to be a bridge between Japan and the United States.

How We Define Heroes in Present Day with Allan K Patch, Retired Captain, USN,

    in Lifestyle

The Heroes and Heroines in the media today take all shapes and forms. Aside from Police, Firemen and Military who sign up to be in harm’s way, some are ordinary people who rise to meet extraordinary situations.

Always more visible are the fictional characters portrayed by Hollywood celebrities; from The Incredibles to James Bond, from comic book superheroes to cinematic heroics, we are awed and entertained.  But what of celebrity mis-named heroes such as athletes – are their efforts heroic- or just inspiring…as well as entertaining?

Ancient Greek and Roman History was so inspired by heroics that gods were created who not only had great power but were also greatly flawed.   In today’s world we bandy about the term hero without seemingly understanding the meaning of the word.  Football players, basketball stars, actors, musicians…all are referred to and refer to each other as heroes.

Retired USN Captain Allan Patch grew up in Plymouth, Mass where he developed a fascination with the heritage of our nation.  Adding sciences to his interest in history, Allan earned a BS in biology from Boston College and a DMD from Tufts University. He then spent over two decades in the Navy, deployed in both Navy hospitals and in active duty with the Marine Corps; and entered private dental practice while serving in the Naval Reserve.

Passage At Delphi is the first novel in a series exploring the confluence of the past, present, and future.  He invites readers along for the thrilling ride and explores the difference between heroism and celebrity in the context of past and present culture.

Author Alan Patch is here to talk about PASSAGE AT DELPHI, Apollo Series Book 1 the beginning of Lauren and Zack’s epic adventure.

Heroes Among Us: Adoption and Vietnam

    in Politics Conservative

In November, we observe Veterans Day. Many do not realize that National Adoption Month is also in November. Both are very important observances. Those who have served in the military are our heroes, as are those who have opened their hearts and homes to children in need of a family.

David Cordeau, a Vietnam veteran, will share his story with us. He miraculously survived many dangers during the war. Now, he pastors a church and travels nationally and internationally sharing the Gospel. He even travels to Vietnam to preach.

Anne Knapp and her husband, Dan, have five children, two of whom they adopted from Haiti. Their lives are more complete as a result of adding Ednel and Ronald to their homes, but the adoption process certainly came with challenges. Tune in to hear their story.

Tune in to The Right Voice with Adrienne Ross from 8:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Eastern/7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Central every Tuesday. Become part of the conversation by calling in to (646) 200-3715 to comment and/or ask questions. If you miss the live show, listen to the podcast at any time.
