The Rise of a Counterfeit Christianity

    in Christianity

Jesus Christ told His apostles to make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in His name. Most people who are familiar with the Bible realize that those apostles zealously embarked on that mission. Their converts were first called Christians in the city of Antioch (Acts 11:26). Over the centuries, vast numbers of people were born or converted into what eventually became the hundreds of denominations known collectively as “Christianity”—to the point that it became and still remains one of the world’s most popular and dominant religions.

Biblical Faith Is Not A Force

    in Christianity

In this segment I will be talking about Biblical faith. What is it really? I will also be talking about and exploring an aberrant teaching about something called the "force of faith" and why it is dangerous and considered a misunderstanding about Biblical faith. Could this way of believing ruin your image of God and distort the one true God of the Scriptures?  I will also be covering a brief overview about Systematic Theology and Biblical Theology and why they play a major role in knowing Scripture rightfully. Tune in this Thursday evening at 8 PM EST. Blessings In Christ!  Hosted by Peter Jannetti.

The Deposit of the Faith (Part 2) (The History of Christianity #37)

    in Religion

    The History of Christianity #37

Our Scripture verse today is 1 Corinthians 12:8 which reads: "For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit."

Our quote today is from Dr. Darrell L. Bock. He said: "The key point is that Gnosticism was not a singular connected movement but more a way of seeing the world that produced a myriad of viewpoints on the themes tied to its definition."

Today, we are looking at "The Deposit of the Faith" (Part 2) from Dr. Justo L. Gonzalez's fine book, The Story of Christianity (Volume 1).

    Gnosticism (Part 1)

Of all the differing interpretations of Christianity, none seemed as dangerous, nor as close to victory, as was Gnosticism. This was not a well-defined organization in competition with the church; rather, it was a vast and amorphous movement that existed both within and outside of Christianity. Within Judaism, partly as a response to the fall of Jerusalem and the destruction of the Temple in 70 AD, some embraced Gnostic ideas, thus giving birth to a Gnostic Judaism that contradicted much of traditional Jewish teachings - particularly regarding divine creation and the goodness of the created world. Likewise, when Gnosticism incorporated the name of Christ and other items from the Judeo-Christian tradition into its diverse systems, it did so in such terms that other Christians felt that some crucial elements of their faith were being denied.

The Defense of the Faith (Part 6) (The History of Christianity #35)

    in Religion

Our Scripture verse today is Hebrews 11:16 which reads: "But now they desire a better country, that is, an heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed to be called their God: for he hath prepared for them a city."

Our quote today is from John Calvin. He said: "A dog barks when his master is attacked. I would be a coward if I saw that God's truth is attacked and yet would remain silent."

Today, we are looking at "The Defense of the Faith" (Part 5) from Dr. Justo L. Gonzalez's fine book, The Story of Christianity (Volume 1).

Today's subject is The Arguments of the Apologists

Justin's use of the doctrine of the Logos provided a basic framework within which Christians could claim whatever they wished from the rich lode of classical culture. But there still remained the need to refute the various objections raised against Christianity. Although it is impossible to list here all such refutations, some examples will give a general idea of the nature of the arguments of the apologists.

When accused of being atheists because they had no visible gods, Christians responded that in that case many of the greatest philosophers and poets were also atheists. To support that statement it sufficed to quote the ancient writers who had affirmed that the gods were human inventions, and that their vices were worse than those of their worshipers. Aristides suggested that such gods had been invented precisely in order to give full rein to human vice. Also, a common argument was that the idols, often made of gold and precious stones, had to be guarded against thieves. How can a god that must be protected provide any protection? How can a god made by human hands be above humans? On these points orthodox Christianity held to the doctrine of monotheism and divine creation that it had learned from its Jewish background...
