The members of Ernie and the Automatics are Guitarist Barry Goudreau and drummer Sib Hashian who were former members of the multi-platinum selling band Boston.
Goudreau left the group after its first two mega-selling albums and formed RTZ with keyboardist/vocalist/harmonica player Brian Maes, bassist Tim Archibald and Boston frontman Brad Delp. Subsequently, Maes and Archibald spent six years in Peter Wolf’s House Party Five, plying Wolf originals and material made famous by the J. Geils Band. Saxophonist Michael “Tunes” Antunes spent most of his career playing with John Cafferty and the Beaver Brown Band, best known for their hit “On the Dark Side” and their work on the soundtrack to the cult classic rock film Eddie and the Cruisers. Collectively, these five veterans have sold north of 32 million records. The band is rounded out by guitarist and Berklee graduate Ernie Boch, a fixture of Boston’s modern-day rock & roll community. The Total Tutor Neil Haley will interview a favorite Pittsburgh Steeler, Ernie Mills.
Ernie Mills comes to the Rattler squad as the receivers’ coach. Mills was a standout receiver for the Florida Gators before being drafted in 1991 to the Pittsburgh Steelers. He played in Pittsburgh with Holmes until 1996. In 1997 he played one season with the Carolina Panthers, before playing with the Dallas Cowboys in 1998 and 1999.
Ernie Mills led the Gators in receiving touchdowns with 10 in 1990. That season he also garnered 770 yards receiving. He was a first-team All-SEC selection with the 9-2 Gators in 1990, playing under both Galen Hall and Steve Spurrier in his time at the University of Florida.
Ernie helped the Steelers get a birth in Super Bowl XXX with 39 catches for 679 yards while scoring eight touchdowns on the season. Mills spent nine years in the NFL. He finished his career with 196 receptions, 20 touchdowns and 2,934 yards. Mills is still regarded as one of the toughest receivers to ever play professional football. His versatility as a blocker was often compared to the resolve of the area’s reputation for blue collar steel workers. Also a return man in the NFL, Mills gained and amazing 1,818 yards on 80 kickoff returns.
