Our guest is Susan Wagner, President and co-founder of Equine Advocates. Founded in 1996, Equine Advocates has helped rescue thousands of equine from slaughter, abuse and neglect.
Equine Advocates originated and participated in many televised and print undercover investigations in the U.S. and Canada to expose horse slaughter auctions, horse slaughterhouses, the tragic fate of most camp horses, the abusive treatment of many mules, buggy horses and work horses by some Amish farmers, the miserable lives of PMU mares who are continually impregnated and turned into 4-legged drug machines to produce the drugs, Premarin, PremPro and Premphase, the cruel urban carriage horse trade and other informative reports exposing equine abuse and other forms of exploitation.
In 2004, Equine Advocates opened the Equine Advocates Rescue and Sanctuary on 140 acres in Chatham, NY, now home to 85 equine (with 3 wild horses, including Hayden, who was rounded up by the BLM in Montana). In 2006, they opened the Equine Education Center, where they hold lectures and symposiums on equine care, humane treatment, natural horsemanship and the enforcement of the cruelty laws. They also host the annual American Equine Summit.

in Self Help
Our equine friends open us to new possibilities and help us discover and awaken our own power and freedom. They offer a safe and playful environment to discover previously unknown aspects of ourselves.
Whether it’s going through a life transition, making big decisions, feeling stuck, lost or trapped, dealing with relationship challenges, mending a broken heart, working through health opportunities, developing self-confidence & leadership skills, starting a business or simply yearning for something deeper, the horses can help you.
Jennifer shares: “Working with horses has opened my life in ways I could never imagine. I feel so much awe and respect for these gentle yet powerful creatures through which we can learn so much about ourselves, each other and the world.”
Jennifer is a Registered Counsellor, Life Coach and certified Facilitated Equine Experiential Learning Practitioner who offers equine-assisted self-discovery as an intuitive new approach to energy healing, skill-building and personal development. Her mission is simple: To help others stop living in their head, and start living in their heart.
Since horses are so attuned to non-verbal cues, Jennifer believes they act as human mirrors, providing transparent, immediate, and non-judgmental feedback on how we’re relating to ourselves and our environment. In guiding us to this place of self-awareness, horses can teach us how to rebuild trust in ourselves and others, communicate honestly, create healthy boundaries, develop confident leadership skills, and nurture our deepest passions. www.unbridledexperiences.com
Rick and Virginia Hawthorne are Co-Founders of the VALLEY VIEW VAULTERS located in Southern California. They teach the art and skill of equine vaulting to special needs, and non special needs children; children who are attaining dignity and fearlessness in a competitive sport where participants perform a variety of gymnastic exercises on the horse as it moves in a circle. That's the easy part. The Hawthornes remind us that, no matter how dark the hour, or how hopeless a situation, there are teachers among us who illuminate the path to our most terrible fears, who strengthen our most profound insecurities, and bring us succesfully through the far reaching realms of low self worth. Rick and Virginia Hawthorne have been literally changing hundreds, perhaps thousands, of lives for the better for more than 30 years, with the Valley View Vaulters. Watch their You Tube Video "Armed With Love" to see live demonstrations of vaulting and how miracles are a daily occurance at their North Valley facility. Join the conversation on June 28th at High Noon with Suzanne Marcus Fletcher.

People find healing using different modalities. One of those modalities, Equine Facilitated Psychotherapy, is having incredibly healing effects for trauma survivors. And, Jim shared his powerful and moving story of his service, injury, PTSD and how his work with Maurette continued to change his life. Michele Rosenthal is a popular keynote speaker, award-winning author and post-trauma coach. Healing of Our Veterans through Equine Assisted Services (HOOVES) is a Non-profit program that was founded in January 2001 to assist veterans not only with healing emotional trauma, but also families with re-integration, self-discovery, anger management, and conflict resolution. We offer individual, family, and group sessions as well as a mustang gentling program.
What we want veterans to know is that: there’s no riding involved; programs are always 100% FREE; confidentiality is maintained at all times; all therapy is either Equine Therapy or Equine Assisted Learning (EAL) and are a self-healing process; and there’s no traditional therapy used. The HOOVES Program produces profound results because it:
Utilizes the strengths of the military in training warriors for combat Veterans challenge themselves in activities with horses which removes much of the “stigma” associated with traditional “talk therapy” Equine assisted activities re-create frustrations, stressors, and relationship problems so veterans learn to adapt, improvise, and overcome perceived stressor as effectively at home as they do on the battlefield Veterans must respond to the unpredictability and inability to “control” the horse and discover ways to make the relationship work HOOVES expanded in January 2010 when it became evident that our services were needed by individuals from all walks of life. Now open to anyone seeking to heal and/or grow, we work out of two locations and added Riverbed Equine Therapy Services (RETS) to better serve those in the NW Ohio area.
Join us Wednesday evening for an update on our wild horses and burro's. Presented as an educational outreach by Wild Horse Freedom Federation.
Our guests tonight will be Wild Horse Freedom Federation Board members RT Fitch (Pres.), Carol Walker (Dir. Of Field Documentation) and Marjorie Farabee (Dir. Of Wild Burro Affairs) talking about the BLM roundups of wild horses in Wyoming, the endangered donkeys in Bonaire and the International Equine Conference.
