Envy is a universal emotion no one seems to have. That is, while every language has a word for it, few are willing to talk about their own envy or even acknowledge it to themselves. Josh Gressel wrote a book, Embracing Envy: Finding the Spiritual Treasure in Our Most Shameful Emotion, to explore why this is so and what we might learn about ourselves from exploring our envy more openly. The basic premise of the book is that the emotion would not exist unless there is some positive reason for it. The book explains what some of those reasons might be.

Good morning, good morning, GOOD morning!!! Happy Monday morning, to ya!!! Can you believe it's the last week in April??? Where, oh, where, has all this time gone. Geesh, if you not doing nothing, you best be getting to it, cause you got to start somewhere, in order to wind up, at the finish line. Speaking of finish line, just like, a good old race, it takes time to get to the end of it. Sometimes, you barely make it to the finish line, but when you do cross it, what a great feeling of accomplishment. So I wanna say to you today, start you a "race," and no matter how long it takes you to get to the finish line, keep going, cause things, TRULY do take time, and the goal, is, the finish line, of success. Anywho, I haven't posted the link to my donation site in a while, and someone was looking for it here, so here it is. If you would like to make sure that, the Morning Talk with the Red Hawk Show, continues to soar, please send your donations, by way of my business website, http://theredhawk1967.wix.com/stwrhtheshow, your generosity is much appreciated.
The human emotion "envy" is largely considered a negative, undesirable behavior - one that we wish we didn't have to experience, yet we all do. It doesn't feel good to be envious. When we do have feelings of envy our natural inclination is to disguise them - we don't want others to see this "ugly" side of ourselves.
Today's special guest, Josh Gressel, Ph.D., author of the book, Embracing Envy: Finding the Spiritual Treasure in Our Most Shameful Emotion proposes that while envy is the "Achilles heel" of our ego, it is also a door to our "personal underworld" that when opened can lead us to our personal riches.
In Dr. Gressel's career as a psychologist he has attempted to integrate spiritual and psychological truths. He researched the topic of envy using that integration, and wrote Embracing Envy based on his belief that we would not have been created to experience this emotion unless it served an important purpose. He believes that envy forces us to admit to ourselves that we are capable of more than what we presently are.
Today Dr. Gressel is here to share what he has learned about envy and to help us understand the upside of our own.
