Environmental Awareness - Beth Terry, author of Plastic-Free: How I Kicked the Plastic Habit and How You Can Too
A practical guide to ridding your life--and the planet--of plastic!
Like many people, Beth Terry didn't think an individual could have much impact on the environment. But while laid up after surgery, she read an article about the staggering amount of plastic polluting the oceans and decided then and there to kick her plastic habit. Now she wants to teach you how you can too. In her quirky, humorous style--well known to the readers of her popular blog, My Plastic-Free Life--Terry provides personal anecdotes, stats about the environmental and health problems related to plastic, and personal solutions and tips on how to limit your plastic footprint.
Beth's book includes handy lists and charts for easy reference, ways to get involved in larger community actions, and profiles of individuals-- Plastic-Free Heroes--who have gone beyond personal solutions to create a change on a larger scale. Plastic-Free also includes chapters on letting go of eco-guilt, strategies for coping with overwhelming problems, and ways to relate to other people who aren't as far along on the plastic-free path. Plastic-Free is a must-read for anyone concerned about the ongoing health and happiness of themselves, their children, and the planet.

Are all of these environmental crises real? Or are we being hoodwinked?
Warren Duffy talks about the environment, taking a look behind that “green curtain” exposing the who, how and why global environmentalists have been slowly strangling American citizens’ livelihood. Have you had your healthy dose of reality lately? There are always at least two sides to every story. Have you ever wondered how someone, who saw the same thing you did, walked away telling a vastly different story? Which version was correct? Which one was the REAL story? Actually, both are! It’s just a matter of perspective. Joe takes the issues… especially the controversial issues (politics, prejudice, religion, illegal immigration)… and brings in people from different sides to share their viewpoint. This is definitely not a fluff piece. And while no one is attacked, the questions are hard-hitting. But the conversation is always respectful and you’re sure to learn something new, even if you don’t agree! If you’ve always wondered how the “other side” thinks and how they’ve arrived at their “stand”, then this is the show for you!
It’s not the right side, it’s not the wrong side, but the REAL side of the issues!
ENVISION THIS: “If we wish to stop the atrocities, we need merely to step aside from the isolation. There is a whole world waiting for us, ready to welcome us home.”
Derrick Jensen's new book, STRANGELY LIKE WAR-THE GLOBAL ASSAULT ON FORESTS, provides us with powerful proof we must address the corporate assault on life NOW, before it is too late. In an age marked by seemingly unstoppable environmental collapse and the urgent quest for solutions, environmental philosopher Derrick Jensen, the voice of the growing deep ecology movement, reveals for us new seeds of hope.
Derrick walks his talk, convening Earth at Risk: Building a Resistance Movement to Save the Planet, a conference that featured thinkers and activists who are willing to ask the hardest questions about the seriousness of our situation. Together they build an unassailable case that we need to deprive the rich of their ability to steal from the poor, and the powerful of their ability to destroy the planet. They offer their ideas on what can be done to build a real resistance movement–one that can actually match the scale of the problem. A DVD is available at http://www.derrickjensen.org/work/books-dvds-cds/#actionperson.
Hailed as the philosopher poet of the environmental movement, Derrick Jensen is author of twenty-one books and was named one of Utne Reader's "50 Visionaries Who Are Changing Your World." He has packed university auditoriums, conferences, and bookstores across the nation, stirring them with revolutionary spirit.
