The five-brother singing group Tavares may be best known for such up-tempo hits as the million-selling single "Heaven Must Be Missing an Angel," "More Than a Woman," and "Whodunit," but they first came to national attention with the luscious ballad "Check It Out." Their crisp vocalizing and clean-cut, young-men-next-door image made them favorites on TV shows starring Johnny Carson, Mike Douglas, and Dick Clark's American Bandstand. In 1974, Tavares also had the first hit version (number one R&B) of "She's Gone" written by the then relative unknown duo of Daryl Hall and John Oates. Hall & Oates scored a number seven pop hit with the song in 1976.
Chubby Tavares is now focused on producing solo projects. His first project was Jealousy which reaches beyond his salad days as a hit making member of his family group to record an album of covers ranging from tunes from the Great American Songbook to pop tunes of artists such as The Eagles and Barry Gibb. Jealousy’s track list made it clear that Chubby approached this project with a non-cynical view toward making a covers album. He didn’t employ modern production techniques or odd collaborations in an attempt to reach a younger demographic. He also didn’t fill Jealousy with a bunch of done to death covers. He's done the same thing with his soon to be released new CD "Can't Knock Me Down." This will be a great conversation with a legendary voice from the 60's disco era.

Welcome back Uncle Ernie!!!!!!
Coming back as strong as ever Ernest Rucker Jr. Dave Gilmore and Brent Nation pick up where they left off.. The city of Paterson has an issue with the present Council President Julio Tavares who has basically made it clear that he has no respect for the constituents and voters of Paterson. He has made some racially motivated comments that were offensive to other Council members and his attempt to divide the city has gained some negative attention. Race-baiting and racial division cannot and will not be accepted in the political circle of our city government . We don't have to call this man a racist, he has made it perfectly clear...
This is a must have conversation that needs to be addressed..
Join Ernie,Brent,Dave and special guest as we discuss the petition for a No Confidence Vote against Tavares as well as the up coming Black Condition Conference this Feburary...
he Tavares brothers, whose parents were of Cape Verbena descent, started performing in 1959 as Chubby and the Turnpikes when the youngest brother was 9 years old. Future Aerosmith drummer Joey Kramer appeared as the "token white-guy drummer" in an early incarnation of Tavares. Chubby and The Turnpikes signed with Capitol Records in 1967 and had a couple of local hit records including "I Know The Inside Story" in 1967 and "Nothing But Promises" in 1968. By 1973, they had changed their name to Tavares and scored their first R&B Top 10 (Pop Top 40) hit with "Check it Out" that same year, and soon began charting regularly on the R&B and pop charts. Their first album included their brother Victor, who sang lead on "Check it Out", but dropped out of the group shortly after. In 1974 Tavares had a #1 R&B hit with Hall & Oates' "She's Gone," (which became a hit for Hall & Oates as well two years later). Tavares followed up that success with "Remember What I Told You to Forget."
1975 turned out to be their most successful year chart-wise, chalking up a Top 40 Pop album (In the City) and their biggest hit, the Top 10 Pop/#1 R&B smash "It Only Takes a Minute", which was later successfully covered by both Jonathan King and Take That, and recently sampled by Jennifer Lopez. They parlayed this success into a spot as an opening act for The Jackson 5 KC and The Sunshine Band was also on this tour. "Minute" was followed by a string of hits: "Heaven Must Be Missing an Angel" (1976), "Don't Take Away the Music" (1976), and "Whodunit" (1977, another #1 R&B hit), among others. In 1977 they also recorded "I Wanna See You Soon", a duet with Capitol label mate Freda Payne which received airplay on BBC Radio 1 but failed to chart.
The Chicago Bears have slowed their roll on the free agent market, which means increasing speculation regarding the upcoming NFL draft. What position do the Bears still desperately need? The Chicago Bulls meanwhile, have lost 5 of their last 6 and look utterly lost and hopeless without three of their key players. What can be done to salvage the season and their spot in the standings? The Blackhawks take on the New York Islanders tonight, having won two straight games where they finally got some production from their power play. Several players that had gone missing on the score sheet showed up. Can the Blackhawks keep it rolling without Patrick Kane? All this and your phone calls (347) 327-9183!

The Island’s first Couple of Cinematography, Nadine Vaughan and Rick Traum were at it again when local contemporary gospel duo Joey Daddario and Jeanie Scheff decided to produce a real professional music video for their latest album’s title track “I Grew Up On Gospel” and retained the award winning talents of Executive Director Dave D’Ardenne, who in turn approached Nadine Vaughan to head up the production team as Producer, Writer, Casting Director and Costumes and Don Flynnas Director Photography.
Nadine’s script “The Gospel Train” called for a 1950s period setting in an active train station setting with a real life locomotive, which is why Fernandina Beach would not qualify for location selection and therefor the crew and cast of some 25 in total took a three hour bus ride south to Tavares Florida where the perfect setting was available.

Monday's council meeting did a few things that we as a community need to take note of
1) Council President Julio Tavares attempted to through his political weight around using racism and bigotry in an attempt to further his deck stacking abilities to hispanicly over take city hall.
2) Julio Tavares the Councilman and Julio the Council President who inadvertantly are the same person has his own agenda that just does not fit in the needed political structure in Paterson..
3) Because of some desperate tactics that backfired Council President showed his already somewhat exposed hand and we as a city, as a community as voters and constituents will no longer stand for it therefor the movement to have JULIO TAVARES removed has to take place... NOW!!!!!!!!!
