Authors Supporting Authors with Mary Ellen Danuser

    in Self Help

Show airs at 8:00 pm EST/AST; 7:00 pm CST; 6:00 pm MST; and 5:00 pm PST.

Mary Ellen Danuser book, Freedom to Choose, sheds light as to why some people choose to date and marry outside their race. She believes that issues on interracial relationships are not fairly understood in today's society, partly attributed to the lack of public awareness on the subject. In turn it is the result of scarcely documented literature deeply addressing the case from the rare personal viewpoint. With this in mind, she wrote Freedom to Choose - Is Skin Color Really an Issue?” a compilation of true stories from interracially married couples all over the US, including the author’s real-life experiences.

The book mainly tells the story of Mary Ellen and her spouse, John Dakota, a retired Marine officer and commercial pilot, interpolated with the narratives of the couples she has interviewed. It offers a rare look into the lives of these couples, revealing insights as to the rationales why some people choose their mates outside their race - a portrait of motive, intent, and personal choice. The real names of the pairs are withheld but the experiences shared are authentic and real.

Mary Ellen, who served in the US Army as a medical specialist and an Army recruiter, is a retired insurance professional. With her husband she enjoys traveling, attending car races, dining out, outdoor concerts, reading, walking, sightseeing, and just hanging out with each other. Mary Ellen, born in Springfield, Illinois, grew up in Vandalia, Missouri. Because her passion since her retirement is writing non-fiction books, she is working on her second non-fiction book.

Never make an Elevator Speech Again! ~ with guest Felicia Slattery

    in Marketing

Our special guest is Felicia Slattery.  She just authored a fabulous book called Kill the Elevator Pitch: Stop Selling, Start Connecting.  I can’t wait for us to explore what that means on this episode...

It’s almost like the definition of insanity. We’re all taught that we need an “elevator speech” just as much as we need a business card, a website, and air to breathe in order to be successful. But the crazy part is NO ONE likes to give those canned elevator speeches and NO ONE likes to hear them because they’re usually full of blah, blah, blah meaningless marketing drivel and feel very contrived and yucky.

More importantly, evidence proves even the most well-crafted and best-delivered elevator speeches don’t work to bring in new business. And they completely fall flat on establishing a new business relationship.

Come and find out what to do instead. It has something to do with… not selling, but connecting.

During this interview Felicia is sharing:

    • The 3 main reasons why the “elevator speech” doesn’t work anymore for business (if it ever did!).

    • If not an “elevator speech” what exactly you can say when someone asks you what you do so you can naturally participate in a conversation and honor the other person as an actual human being (gasp! Yes you can!).

    • The only 5 words you need to remember to never have to hear another elevator speech ever again, short-cut the relationship-building, and get to the know-like-and-trust part right away – without sounding canned or unnatural.

If you have any questions you'd like to ask, send them into info@keystoclarity.com ahead of the show.

    America's Classical Music Jazz

    in Music

Join me this evening when I interview Cedric Hendricks and William Brower regarding the bill H.R. 1682, the National Jazz Preservation, Education and Promulgation Act of 2015.  The bill will preserve knowledge and promote education about jazz in the United States and abroad.  Cedric Hendricks is an attorney based in Washington, DC. For over the past thirty-two years, Cedric R. Hendricks has worked closely with Congressman John Conyers, Jr. (D-MI) on Jazz-related legislative and policy initiatives.  Among his accomplishments with Mr. Conyers has been the development and passage in 1987 of House Concurrent Resolution 57, which designated Jazz as a rare and valuable national American treasure.  This was followed in 1989 by the passage of legislation designating May 25th, the birthday of Bill Bojangles Robinson, as National Tap Dance Day.  In 1991, they successfully secured federal funding to establish the Smithsonian Jazz Masterworks Orchestra, which is now over 20 years old and has performed around the world.  Most recently, he worked with Mr. Conyers on the development and introduction of a new bill for jazz, HR 1682, the National Jazz Preservation, Education and Promulgation Act of 2015.  William Brower resides in Washington, D.C.  In his 45-year career, Bill Brower has been a community organizer, a jazz journalist and oral historian, and a jazz and special event producer. He is currently a Founding and Senior partner of JBV Production, LLC. A major JBV client is the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation. In that capacity Mr. Brower has served as Producer of the CBCF Annual Legislative Conference Jazz Issue Forum and Concert. He has also worked with the Office of Rep. John Conyers on various legislative initiatives, including H. Con. Res. 57 and HR 1682.  Keeping jazz alive on Jazz Notes.

900 Voices, beautiful song/video promises to make you smile, and maybe even cry

    in Spirituality

Grammy® winning composer, Laura Sullivan, called out to the world to join her in a powerful plan to make a music video. Her request was simple. Take a video of yourself singing her song We Are Love and send it to her. The response was overwhelming.

900 Voices, promises to make you smile, and maybe even cry. 938 people, 27 languages, 1 song.

People from Australia, Brazil, Israel, Croatia, Korea, Kenya, India, and many other countries, participated by making videos on their cell phones and sending them to Laura and will make you so happy. Elena from Bulgaria, still in her hospital gown, sings and sweetly kisses her newborn son. A group of children in Uganda, who were once homeless, sing and dance like they are the richest kids in the world. A fire department of tough guys from New Jersey gives it their all.

The result: EPIC. 27 languages included in one song and video about love and unity. The video was released on April 9, 2014. It received over 50,000 views, and was accepted on the Ellen DeGeneres online Tube channel the first week of its release.

“I was hoping to get a lot of participation, but what I received back was beyond my wildest dreams. People from all over the world and from every walk of life sent in incredible videos.  Watching them moved me to tears. I hope I have honored these hundreds of wonderful people by including them in the video.” says Laura.

The resulting video, with the blending of the many voices, faces, and languages, creates a powerfully moving experience that shines a light on the unifying power of love in our world.

50% of the music proceeds of 900 Voices are going towards the national nonprofit Little Kids Rock. This organization partners with economically disadvantaged school districts to run music programs. To date they have served more than 325,000 children in 13 states.

    CONVERSATION WITH ELLEN BRAZER

    in Health

Ellen Brazer Award winning author speaks with Lorna Owens about her new book So It Is Written.

Meticulously researched and controversial in scope and imagination, And So It Was Written travels to a time when a Third Temple is built and the Ark of the Covenant holding the Ten Commandments is found. The year is 132 CE, and the proclaimed Jewish Messiah, Bar Kokhba, has defeated the Roman army and rules Judea. As the Romans prepare to reclaim Israel, the book follows two sets of brothers-one Roman and one Jewish-whose friendships, hatreds, and lives intertwine. For characters you will dream about, And So It Was Written is the ultimate treat. You will smell the spices in the markets, see the blood on the battlefields, rage with the injustice of brother against brother. From triumph to defeat, this is a saga of courage, conquest, familial loyalty, honor and love-showing man at his best and his worst.
