Grammy-nominated songstress Elle Varner recalls how her dad’s strict academic standards helped her achieve success. “To him, a B was not good. He told me, ‘A B is average. Are you average?’ So when I had to tell him I got a D in math, it was pretty much the worst summer of my life,” she confesses to Teen Diaries Radio host Aeshia Branch. “But I got through it and I never did that again. My advice is to really take high school seriously, especially if yo

Holly Elle, a Canadian classically trained singer with a passion for pop, brings to the U.S. a unique twist on modern mainstream music. Elle was captivated by the sparkle of the spotlight at a young age. Much like her musical background, Elle’s music is very diverse. While she knows how to let loose and show her fans a good time, the pop singer with a divatude has a more serious side to her as well. Elle’s viral video release, “Freak,” is a lyrically promiscuous song about sexual orientation that is her response to recent teen suicides and bullying. The music video for the song received attention from many online bloggers and was featured in a well-known LGBT magazine, The Advocate. Her music relates to her fans and meets people wherever they are whether it’s helping them cope or encouraging them to just let loose on the dance floor. This side of her is portrayed perfectly through her upcoming EP, Leopardess. Although her forthcoming release is a smooth R&B blend heavily influenced by pop, don’t be surprised when you hear sparks of other genres, seamlessly tied into the mix. She stops by on Wednesday, June 19, at 8pm EST.
Melinda Rae welcomes Ciara Elle to the Girls in Power Radio Show
The self-described “Go Getter” credits her personal and professional success to her spiritual faith, great sense of humor, and constant commitment to not only survive a childhood filled dysfunction, and disadvantage, but to also become a living example that “one’s future is by no means limited by their past.” Ciara does not take light of the fact that she was born January 15th,she shares this birthday with late great Dr. Martin Luther King jr. “The fact that I share the same birthday of a man of such statue, give me the hope I need to succeed.” Ciara currently resides in the metropolitan Atlanta area. Now, she not only shares her birthday with Atlanta’s King; she also shares his birthplace. Perhaps this was part of her destiny.
Elle’s first self-published romantic comedy The Frog Prince became an Amazon bestseller in December 2010—a distinction it kept through the summer of 2012, when it peaked at #1 on Amazon's Top 100 List for Humor. She was one of the first authors to sign on to Amazon's KDP Select and to take advantage of that program's "free promo days,” which she used on Valentine’s Day to give away 45,000 copies of her novels, catapulting Sleeping Beauty to Amazon’s Top 100 List for Romantic Suspense.
Elle sat on Digital Book World’s (DBW) Successful Self-Published Authors panel in January 2012. In February 2012, she was named to Expert Messaging Group’s “25 Self-Published Authors to Watch." She is considered a “reluctant expert” on the topic of electronic, independent-publishing (self-publishing), and is well-known for taking advantage of her full creative control by pushing the envelope—and advising other independently published authors to do the same.
In March of 2012, she published an alternate ending version of her rom-com Sleeping Beauty called Sleeping Beauty Wakes Up! in response to fan feedback. That same month, she gave a two-hour workshop at Left Coast Crime to a standing room-only crowd of (mostly) traditionally published authors.
In April 2012, Elle was invited to be a regular contributor to DBWs Expert Publishing Blog. In May 2012, she created a firestorm of controversy by suggesting that authors should respond to negative reader reviews. She will be a featured Author Speaker at the DBW Discoverability and Marketing Conference in September 2012. Elle was also nominated to be a speaker for TedxMileHighWomen, and very much hopes to secure one of the coveted spots for the December 2013 event.
