Join us to explore sustainability, ecosystems, the rights of animals and the environment, along with the concept of dwelling. What is the meaning of our human life? Who do we want to be? How can we construct a new philosophical anthropology that leads to a gentler relationship to all others?
As we continue our special series called “The Neonicotinoid View”, host June Stoyer and special guest co-host, Tom Theobald are joined by Dutch toxicologist, Dr Henk Tennekes to discuss his latest research, titled, “Impact of Systemic Insecticides on Organisms and Ecosystems” The research examines the negative impacts that systemic insecticides have on organisms, populations and ecosystems. The efficacy of these products in controlling the target pests is assumed and not dealt with here – only the effects on non-target organisms and communities are considered. James views communities to be like ecosystems; dynamic, interdependent, and ever-changing in order to thrive. One of the challenges of any group, be it a village, neighborhood, an organization, or a personal relationship, is to allow for the intrinsic ongoing change that naturally occurs, while at the same time, finding agreement and common purpose. Coming up on Friday June 19th at 8pm est, 7pm cst and 5pm pst, Ray and Ken will be discussing climate, geology, history and more importantly some truly fascinating wildlife that call this remarkable place home. Extreme conditions and some very amazing plants and animals thrive in Death Valley.
Faulting is the one of the main reasons Death Valley exists. Movement along faults allow the mountains to rise and the valleys to sink. Death Valley is located in the southwestern portion of the Basin and Range geomorphic province. The Basin and Range province has a long and active geologic history, including faulting and regional tectonic movement. Fault-bounded uplifted ranges are separated by down-dropped sedimentary basins.

Dr. Michael S. Atkins is a marine biologist and a biological oceanographer, and has been involved in ocean sciences for nearly 30 years. His career has taken him into marine, terrestrial, and even extraterrestrial (simulated anyway) ecosystems to look at a wide diversity of living organisms that make a living doing some very extraordinary things.
Dr. Atkins has been fortunate enough to work as an ocean scientist all over the world and even at the bottom of the ocean in deep submersible vehicles. He has worked and consulted on National Science Foundation Life in Extreme Environments and NASA Astrobiology Institute projects to detect life throughout the universe using the ocean bottom as a model.
From 2000 to the present Dr. Atkins has been involved with education and public outreach projects around the world regarding marine sciences. He was a microbiologist in a segment of the National Geographic documentary "Sustainable Seas", and served as a scientific consultant and deep-submersible diver in the film "Aliens of the Deep", by director James Cameron and Disney Pictures, among many other EPO projects both on land and the oceans.
Henry and Tom is Dr. Atkins' first fiction novel based on his experiences with and love for the world's oceans and its remarkable inhabitants.

There is now a series of Tree-Whispering books in addition to several other titles that include Live and Let Live: Collaboration with Nature to Heal Ecosystems. They are both sought for their marvelous keynotes and are freqeunt guests of various media outlets. During Hurricane Sandy they led a totally unique and cutting edge mission to help people save their trees. A book detailing these stories is available at their website. http://www.treewhispering.com/
