Jason Hayes: Drama Teacher & Coach

    in Entertainment

Jason Hayes joins the show tonight to talk about their GoFundMe campaign to help raise funds to take students in their program to the UK this summer to perform!

Call 323 657-1493 to ask questions or join in the fun!

Jason is the Director of Theatre and Lead Teacher for Arts, Media and Entertainment at James Monroe High School in North Hills, a suburb of Los Angeles. With productions that include, Oedipus the King, Wiley and the Hairy Man, Zombie Prom and School House Rock Live! along with on campus festivals that include Comedia Del Arte, Shakespeare and traditional Folkloric dance, his students have been selected by the American High School Theatre Festival as one of only 40 schools from North America to perform at the Edinburgh Fringe in Scotland this August, 2015. While his students are severely economically disadvantaged and labeled "at risk" for a myriad of reasons, they have honed their energies into theatre arts and created for themselves the opportunity of a lifetime in their performance of Romeo y Julieta at this year's Edinburgh Fringe.

Romeo y Julieta is a bi-lingual Romeo and Juliet translated by the students. Using Shakespeare's language and spoken in Original, Elizabethan Pronunciation along with colloquial Spanish, Monroe Theatre tells the story of "star crossed lovers" from rival Hispanic families living in San Fernando, CA.

This is not West Side Story. Romeo y Julieta touches on the, very real, inner-racial tension within the Hispanic community my students deal with daily.

Ep 118: Rachel Rose Alexandria on Ways Women Can Live Conflict- and Drama-Free

    in Books

Join Angela Lauria of The Author Incubator as she interviews author Rachel Rose Alexandria on the publishing of her book, Woman Overboard! Six Ways Women Avoid Conflict and One Way to Live Drama-Free.

Rachel didn't start work on Woman Overboard until she was sure that she HAD a topic that HAD to be written, and it had to be written by HER. Those were the criteria and, lo and behold, the perfect topic did come to her and so the book was born.

Although it took two years for the book to be realized, Rachel said she just kept paying attention and allowed her own obsession to carry her through. "My passion was stronger than my resistance."

Woman Overboard is about managing conflict which the author believes is the root of what holds women back in leadership.

In the interview, Rachel also asks the qustion, "What if being 'good' is keeping you from being truly Great?" There's more about this on Healing for Good Girls.

    May 19: Appealing To Drama

    in Sports

As the sun keeps shinning, the sports world seems to get more and more asinine. That makes things better and better for George "the Howitzer" Gerbo and Mike "the Buzz-saw" Asti.

The tentacles of DefalteGate are never-ending. Robert Kraft now won't appeal the NFL's punishments against the New England Patriots. What triggered this 180 from Kraft? Mike believes this is part of a bigger conspiracy between Roger Goodell and the Patriots owner. Will this impact Tom Brady's separate appeal?

We are down the final four in both the NBA and NHL, but it's the eliminated teams that are staying in the news. Who is to blame for the Clippers epic collapse? Is Doc Rivers overrated? Does too much of the blame get thrown at Chris Paul? Are the Chicago Bulls headed for an offseason of drama?

Does Atlanta stand a chance against Cleveland? Is the NBA championship now Golden State's to lose? Has Dwight Howard officially lost his buffoon label and become the main factor of the playoffs?

On the ice, have the Ducks now become the favorites? Can either the Lightning or Rangers win the Stanley Cup over either west team? George tries to figure out Rick Nash's problems and Mike waxes poetic on Marian Hossa.

The Howitzer and Buzz-saw Show, conquering sports radio, one day, at a time....
