    Indie Books #77 (Nicholas Duncan)

    in Books

Tune in and join me as I welcome this week's guest.

Author Nicholas Duncan joins me this week to talk about his book: Tales From A Muzungu

Imagine you are on a plane to a destination you know very little about. On top of that, you don't know anyone else, will be living there for two years, only have a vague idea of what you will be doing, or if it was the right decision. A major comfort is knowing that you aren't the only person having anxiety during this scenario. This is just the beginning of a Peace Corps volunteer’s service. Tales from a Muzungu is about a Peace Corps Volunteer’s two year experience (2010 – 2012) in Uganda. Nicholas Duncan covers the highs and lows of life in Africa by detailing the atmosphere of Uganda and the day to day life of a volunteer. Nicholas writes about his experience with non-profits, adjusting to deep village life, and the surprises of being a muzungu in Africa.

SWU – Policing ourselves in our Community

We have heard that we need to police the police to make sure they are held accountable. So the question was asked, why don’t we hold ourselves to a higher standard when we want our communities to be better?  Why do we turn our heads when gangs come around and pretend what they are doing or representing in the community aren’t confronted about how they are destroying the community? Let’s start the Officer Involved communication with the community. Let’s Partner with the Police to rebuild what so many have died trying to have for their children and grandchildren.

At the age of three, Rick’s mom and dad took him to a John Wayne movie, where the key scene was a stage coach going over a cliff..obviously very impressed by what he saw, Rick drove his little red pedal car as fast as he could past his parents, who watched in horror as he headed toward the flight of stairs directly in front of him.. his dad tried to catch up to him but could only watch as he went airborne, and then he, while still in the pedal car, rolled end over end, crashing into the floor at the bottom of the stairs..Rick received two black eyes for his effort..

At the age of thirteen, when he lived in the country, a small place called Sam’s Valley in southern Oregon, his dad was having a bunch of people over for an outdoor barbecue..deciding that the party needed a little excitement, Rick rode his Honda 50 motorcycle through the party, all while he was standing on the seat..after the party, he received a sore behind for his effort..Rick entered the stunt business in 1981..who would have guessed?
