He/She is someone's son, daugher, husband, wife, father, mother, brother, sister, cousin, uncle, aunt, grandfather, grandmother and friend. Once the diagnosis is received life because a whirlwind of doctors' appointment, treatments, co-pays, and care management.

Duane Vancil joins the Travel Talk hosts to share the importance of creating memories during this time and the purpose of the Jennifer Wynn Vancil Cancer Foundation, named in honor of his wife.

"While this foundation is named in honor of my wife it is meant to be so much more. It is to be a vehicle to help as many families as possible, to allow families to enjoy a well deserved break from cancer; to receive a cool glass of water in the middle of their desert that is cluttered with surgeries, trials, treatments, doctor visits and mounting medical bills in addition to the responsibilities of parenting and work. However, for those of you who are not familiar with “the story” of Jennifer, you can go to www.jennifervancil.com. But rest assured that this foundation is about the thousands of stories that we, together, will help make as we help families build memories that will last for a lifetime! Have a memory making day."

  • Guest: Duane Stjernholm

    in Culture

Raised in an extremely small town, Cheraw, a tight-knit community in southeastern Colorado, Duane Stjernholm's only avenue to the broader world and an expansion of his horizons was books. Able to read before starting first grade at the age of five, Duane's love of books and the lessons within propelled him to Co-Valedictorian of his high school class of 10 people. Beckoned by broader horizons he then earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology. However, not content with broad enough horizons, he joined the Peace Corps and spent 2 years in the Philippines working in Rice irrigation water management and teaching introductory Social Sciences at the University of the Philippines. This developing country experience not only made him more grateful for the opportunities and possibilities available in developed countries, it made him question his role in how to he could be more instrumental in bringing equality to all people with limited means and possibilities. Recognizing the unifying importance of spirituality and metaphysical quantum mechanics in all peoples realities, he studied the universal power of Love in his pursuit of a Master of Arts in Religions Degree at Denver's Iliff School of Theology.  Soon after graduation he accepted his Life's mission from a challenge issued in a Live speech by the late futurist, inventor and World Citizen, R. Buckminster Fuller, to change the predominant mindset of humans from one of competition to a more sustainable one of cooperation and collaboration. This lead him to found the United Earth Ecclesia dedicated to the Co-Creation of the Greatest and Highest Good for all Earth Citizens and to write two books on the importance of this unprecedented undertaking. Website: ExLo.org

Saturday night in Las Vegas, Moraes chopped down Josh Rettinghouse with some nasty leg kicks and put together some nice combinations to become the first WSOF bantamweight champion. Moraes has now won seven fights in a row and is 5-1 in the WSOF. At 25-years-old the future looks extremely bright for Moares.

Gordon trains alongside UFC fighters Al Iaquinta, Gian Villante and UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman at the Serra/Longo gym. Gordon possesses a 6-1 record and has fought primarily for the New Jersey based Ring of Combat promotion. You can see Gordon alongside all of the other UFC hopefuls beginning April 16. The coaches are former UFC lightweight and welterweight champion BJ Penn and the man who won the lightweight title from him, Frankie Edgar.

Ludwig was named 2013 Coach of the Year at the World MMA Awards because of his great work with the fighters at Team Alpha Male. Fighters such as TJ Dillashaw, Urijah Faber, Joseph Benavidez, Chad Mendes, Danny Castillo and TUF 18 winner, Chris Holdsworth have all sung Ludwig’s praises and credited him for helping them achieve great things since he took over the team. Ludwig helped  lead both Faber and Benavidez to title fights, but both were unsuccessful in their attempts. He recently announced he’d be stepping down as their head coach so he could move his family back to Colorado where he would start his own gym.
