The purpose of the Annie Malone Historical Society is to give proper recognition to a pillar of history. To share the story of extraordinary vision, dedication, commitment and success that was the life of Annie M.Turnbo Pope Malone. To place the accomplishments of this African American icon in one body of evidence that is easily accessible to the public.
Linda M.Nance is the President of the Annie Malone Historical Society and earned a Bachelor Degree in Psychology and a Bachelor Degree in Sociology from Maryville University in St. Louis, Missouri. She holds an Associate in Applied Science Degree (emphases in Human Services/Corrections) from St. Louis Community College at Florissant Valley also in St. Louis, Missouri. A 2009 graduate of the FOCUS St. Louis Leadership program, Linda has also completed the Community Arts Training and the TIGER Fellowship programs sponsored by the St. Louis Regional Arts Commission.
Linda F. Jones is the Vice-President of the Annie Malone Historical Society and is a gifted educator, historian, writer, and lecturer. She received her Master of Business Administration from Indiana University and a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Calumet College. She is a historian with an insatiable interest in researching the history of African Americans, her own family history, and in particular, the history of Annie Turnbo Pope Malone.
Drew Solomon, vice president of business and job development with the Economic Development Commission joins host Kelly Scanlon this week on Smart Companies KC. This week LaunchKC is announcing the finalists from the 500 entrepreneurs who applied for 10 $50,000 LaunchKC grants.
For the past few months, LaunchKC has been looking for the best and brightest to compete to bring their business models to Kansas City. Each eventual grant recipient will receive a $50,000 grant and a network of support, including 12 months of free office space in Downtown; industry-specific mentor teams for each grant recipient; and opportunities to meet and learn from industry and entrepreneurial leaders in and around Kansas City – all designed to elevate their efforts to build high-growth, tech sector businesses and jobs in Downtown KCMO. Drew Solomon, who joined EDC in 2011 as coordinator of entrepreneurship and industry initiatives was an original member of the task force that created LaunchKC.

Under the Influence II starring recording artist Malone took place on June 14, 2015 at The Promontory, hosted by the legendary dance diva CeCe Peniston. Last year Malone premiered his first Under the Influence performance originally set to be a one-time concert paying tribute to his biggest musical influences, Dave Hollister and Carl Thomas; as well as a live introduction to his original music. After a packed house full of good energy for his live acoustic set, Malone decided to make Under the Influence a live concert series featuring his music and music of all genres that’s influenced his life over the years.
What makes Under the Influence special is the way Malone shares his personal stories about what music means to him. He does it in a way that helps his fans find out who he is as a musician and appreciate music even more. “With my concert series my hope is everyone in attendance leaves with a better picture of how I created the Edgy Soul sound and who I am as an artist even through different genres,” says Malone.
Music is Malone’s one true love and passion. It shows in his presence. “It took a moment for me to stand firm in believing who I am as an all around artist,” says Malone. “Now that I’m confident in my gift, I know how I influence others and touch them, so I want people to make it their business to tell the world about me.” Malone is a captivating and creative soul who seeks to make a long lasting connection with his supporters.
