An Hour With Teresa Roberts Logan

    in Comedy

The Laughing Redhead is Teresa Roberts Logan.

She's made a living with humor for several decades, on page and on stage.

Teresa writes and draws humor for publication, for standup comedy, for storytelling, for cartoons . . . as well as spooky stuff, and provides content for publishing, animation, books, and product.

As a professional artist and illustrator, she has done thousands of paintings and drawings, kabillions (math!) of cartoons and jokes for products such as animations, cocktail napkins, partyware, tissues, and greeting cards. She was nominated for a Reuben Award by the National Cartoonists Society for her greeting cards. Currently she's working on a graphic novel, HAINT BLUE, (an autobiographical supernatural story), some horror short stories, and a web comic, FOG OF WORRY.

Books which contain her funny stuff (cartoons and columns): “The Older I Get, The Less I Care” (Andrews McMeel Publishing), “Laughing Out Loud” (Hallmark Gift Books), “Humor for a Sister’s Heart” (Howard Publishing), “Mug of Woe,” “All Woe Great and Small,” “Woe of Dating,” (just released) “Wreck the Halls,” (Mug of Woe Publishing).

Teresa has done a lot of standup comedy and storytelling, through such venues as: HBO, Comedy Channel, A&E, Catch A Rising Star, Gotham Comedy Club, The Metropolitan Room NYC, Zanies, and Comedy Works . . . and was an opening act for Jerry Seinfeld, Ellen DeGeneres, Kevin Nealon, Dana Carvey, Drew Carey, and Paula Poundstone, as well as many other famous and not–so-famous funny people. "Rich Jeni called me 'the Meryl Streep of comedy' and I thought that was so cool that he loved my dialects and accents so much. But one day, when he found out that’s what I thought, he laughed really hard and told me, 'No, I meant you have the same NOSE!'"

Fran Shaw, Ph.D. is a longtime practitioner in a spiritual discipline, a professor teaching writing at the University of Connecticut, and an award-winning author whose works include Notes on The Next Attention, Writing My Yoga, and 50 Ways to Help You Write. Her new book Lord Have Murphy: Waking Up in the Spiritual Marketplace explores with great fun how contact with a finer Attention awakens us to a completely different level of being.

A talented editor and writing coach, Fran teaches at the University of Connecticut at Stamford and conducts workshops across the country. She engages people in writing experiments that begin with a shift into greater awareness from which words freely flow. Some of these exercises appear in her books Writing My Yoga: Poems for Presence and the all-in-one guide 50 Ways to Help You Write.

A fan of the poets William Blake and Walt Whitman, in college Fran studied mysticism and world religions. When she was in her twenties, friends told her about the Gurdjieff Foundation and introduced her to a spiritual guide who worked with her for many years and also encouraged her to create 30 Ways to Help You Write (Bantam), the first book to combine expanded awareness and “free-flow writing.”

Lord Have Murphy: Waking Up in the Spiritual Marketplace came about when Fran was on sabbatical wanting to write and looking at drawings by Bruce M. Sherman. Seeing the phrase “Lord Have Murphy,” she typed the words “Murphy here,” which unlocked a unique work on attention in the form of an illustrated humor book.

What interests author Fran Shaw most is writing from a conscious state—writing as a vibrational practice—to become and help others become a transcribing agent serving higher

    Artist Statement:

My work is always evolving. What does stay constant are two things. One is my desire for simplified, elemental, almost primordial form; leaves, pebbles, diatoms, planets. The second is my fascination with pattern. Found in nature or man-made, I mostly find them to be one and the same. "Etching" is my current body of work:

All matter and energy in the universe are governed by the same natural forces. Patterns are a visible manifestation of these forces. Trees, ice crystals, capillaries, all share the same dendritic growth pattern. The optic nerve takes the same radial form as the rays of the sun, or the dandelion. Animate or inanimate, growth or decay, everything follows the same organizing principles.

My work is an interpretation of these patterns in metal. I make drawings based on found images, then photoetch those drawings into copper and nickel silver, letting the acid eat all the way through the metal, until what remains is a lacy replica of the original drawing. This pattern is overlayed onto fine silver by soldering the two metals together, then rolled in a rolling mill to imbed the etching into the silver. This overlayed piece is then used as an element in a hand fabricated hollow form.
