For this episode of Conversations in the Zone, I have the privilege to chat with Susan Moreno, a contemporary abstract artist based in Atlanta, GA. Susan attended The Art Institute of Chicago and The Atlanta College of Art where she graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Art in 1987. Susan is an award-winning artist whose work has appeared in numerous juried shows including the Decatur Fine Arts Exhibition at The Dalton Gallery at Agnes Scott College. Her collectors include, The Bank of Atlanta, Decatur Arts Alliance, as well as, private collectors in Atlanta and Arizona. Susan grew up in Florida and was around water for much of her formative years. These early memories of water and movement are the foundation for her present work, as she pours paint on canvas and wood. The idea of unrestricted movement and liquidity are her primary concerns. She uses sand and charcoal to add texture and associations of earthiness to her images.
With over 25 years of experience Susan has entertained professionally in the Atlanta area, as well as out of state with caricatures. Over the years Susan has drawn countless caricatures for corporate events such as conventions, trade-shows, employee and customer appreciation, wedding receptions and much more.
Her client list includes Atlanta Magazine, PYA Monarch, Greystone Power, Georgia Power, AT & T, Delta, Coke, Georgia Power, just to name a few. For more information about Susan and the work she loves, visit www.susanmoreno.com, caricaturesbysusan.com or digitalcaricaturesatlanta.com.

The Death of Drawing: Architecture in the Age of Simulation by David Scheer. Published by Routledge, June 2014.
This is a significant book at the time of widespread uncertainty and confusion in architectural theory, education and practice - Juhani Pallasmaa, architect and author of The Eyes of the Skin
In this timely and important study, David Scheer offers a lucid analysis of a dramatic, unprecedented, epistemological shift in architecture and its production - Michael Sorkin, architecture critic, Distinguished Professor of Architecture and Director of the Graduate Program in Urban Design, City College of New York
David Scheer offers a clear and unvarnished assessment of what architects have to lose and gain as we move from representative to simulated experiences, from controlling to collaborative practices, and from Euclidean to parametric/algorithmic form-making - Thomas Fisher, author of Designing to Avoid Disaster, professor of architecture and the Dean of the College of Design, University of Minnesota.

Elaine Clayton is an artist, author, certified Reiki Master, Intuitive Reader, and creator of Illuminara Intuitive Journal. She is also the author a new exciting book called: Making Marks: Discover the Art of Intuitive Drawing.
We all know how to doodle, but do we realize that our doodles can give us clues into our intuitive selves? Artist Elaine Clayton, author of MAKING MARKS (May 6, 2014), claims that doodles, or “little streamers” as she calls them, provide deep insight about ourselves and teaches readers how to become aware of and analyze what we thought were meaningless shapes on the edge of a scrap piece of paper. Through colorful illustrations and interactive exercises, we can all discover the deeper benefits of making marks.

I grew up surrounded by families that warned their daughters against wearing clothes that attracted “the wrong kind of attention.” When I was young I accepted this at face value, and understood (rightly) that these parents were trying to protect their daughters against men only interested in getting laid. It made sense to me (and still does) that the way a woman presented herself directly affected the way she was perceived - and most women didn't want just sex.
It assumes that a woman's clothing is responsible for others' perception of her sexual mores.
While there is a small grain of truth to this, it resides only in the most extreme cases (think: cheap hookers). The kind of women that would actually need to be reminded about attracting the wrong kind of attention are not the ones concerned with avoiding it. Conversely, the women actually getting warned about attracting purely sexual attention are almost always those who are in no danger of it. While this is sometimes because the girl wanting to avoid sexual attention has not been taught how to make herself sexually attractive to men, it is more frequently function of the fact that adornment and presentation are low on the list of factors indicating a girl's promiscuity. Her behavior is what matters, and girls that don't want casual sex don't usually act like whores.
