For this episode of Conversations in the Zone, I have the privilege to chat with Susan Moreno, a contemporary abstract artist based in Atlanta, GA. Susan attended The Art Institute of Chicago and The Atlanta College of Art where she graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Art in 1987. Susan is an award-winning artist whose work has appeared in numerous juried shows including the Decatur Fine Arts Exhibition at The Dalton Gallery at Agnes Scott College. Her collectors include, The Bank of Atlanta, Decatur Arts Alliance, as well as, private collectors in Atlanta and Arizona. Susan grew up in Florida and was around water for much of her formative years. These early memories of water and movement are the foundation for her present work, as she pours paint on canvas and wood. The idea of unrestricted movement and liquidity are her primary concerns. She uses sand and charcoal to add texture and associations of earthiness to her images.
With over 25 years of experience Susan has entertained professionally in the Atlanta area, as well as out of state with caricatures. Over the years Susan has drawn countless caricatures for corporate events such as conventions, trade-shows, employee and customer appreciation, wedding receptions and much more.

A NAPPA, Parents’ Choice and Creative Child Magazine award winner, Drawing with Mark is hosted by Mark Marderosian, a respected professional cartoonist and former Disney illustrator with over 25 years of experience Drawing with Mark teaches children of all ages the fundamentals of drawing.
The series discusses shapes, parallel lines, shading, dimension, stick figures and action lines so a budding artist can feel comfortable moving forward and expanding his/her creativity. Each DVD consists of two 30-minute episodes that combine a field trip to a cool destination with two drawing lessons relating to the field trip, colorful animation, fun facts, trivia, and suggested reading books. The Drawing with Mark series is targeted to children ages 5 to 9 years old.

I grew up surrounded by families that warned their daughters against wearing clothes that attracted “the wrong kind of attention.” When I was young I accepted this at face value, and understood (rightly) that these parents were trying to protect their daughters against men only interested in getting laid. It made sense to me (and still does) that the way a woman presented herself directly affected the way she was perceived - and most women didn't want just sex.
It assumes that a woman's clothing is responsible for others' perception of her sexual mores.
While there is a small grain of truth to this, it resides only in the most extreme cases (think: cheap hookers). The kind of women that would actually need to be reminded about attracting the wrong kind of attention are not the ones concerned with avoiding it. Conversely, the women actually getting warned about attracting purely sexual attention are almost always those who are in no danger of it. While this is sometimes because the girl wanting to avoid sexual attention has not been taught how to make herself sexually attractive to men, it is more frequently function of the fact that adornment and presentation are low on the list of factors indicating a girl's promiscuity. Her behavior is what matters, and girls that don't want casual sex don't usually act like whores.

The Jersey Devil Is Not REAL! is a Realistic Fiction Story about a little girl who draws her own conclusion about the legend of the Jersey Devil. She learns about the information while playing on her favorite website, Poptropica. She began to wonder if the Jersey Devil was real.
Kamille Padgitt, the author, is a 10-year-old who loves to write and draw. The Jersey Devil Is Not REAL! is her first published book. As a member of ASWIFTT Jr. Writer’s Guild, Kamille is receiving mentoring and support to develop her chosen literary craft.
An extraordinary student who attends a college preparatory middle school, Kamille takes AP classes and serves on her school’s student council. Her accomplishments include the ASWIFTT Literary AWARD for her publication The Jersey Devil Is Not REAL!, the ASWIFTT Community Outreach AWARD for her participation in “ASWIFTT JR. Members READS To KIDS” in 2014 at Pat’s Learning Academy, the ASWIFTT Performing Arts AWARD for her participation as a vocalist in the All City Choir for her school district. She recently won a silver medal for her participation in the Irma P. Hall Theatre Arts Festival.
