Leaders, managers, and coaches are charged with getting people to stretch their limits but are often unsuccessful. Top leadership coach Marcia Reynolds says the problem is that when incorrectly handled, difficult conversations create more resistance than growth. Reynolds offers a model and methods for discovering what to say so people change their own minds. As a result, leaders equip people to find their own solutions, see situations more strategically, and grow beyond their limitations.
Reynolds explains how to pick the right time and place to enter the discomfort zone and how to create a “safety bubble” so that people will trust your intentions.
Marcia Reynolds, PsyD, organizational psychologist and certified master coach, is president of Covisioning, a training and coaching firm helping companies worldwide unleash the brilliance in their people. Her clients include American Express, GlaxoSmithKlein, Ernst & Young, and many others around the world. She is a past president of the International Coach Federation.
In her spare time, Marcia accumulates degrees. Her doctoral degree is in organizational psychology with a research focus on high-achievers in today’s corporations. She holds two masters degrees in education and communications.

The Discomfort Zone: How Leaders Turn Difficult Conversations Into Breakthroughs is one of my favorite business books in general and near the top of my favorites for books on employee engagement. I reviewed it here.
Her website is OutSmart Your Brain: Mind-Growing Programs for Leaders.
But one book and a great website is just the beginning of Dr. Reynolds contributions to corporate cultures. She's authored Outsmart Your Brain: How to Make Success Feel Easy and Wander Woman How High-Achieving Women Find Contentment and Direction.
Her first expertise, organizational change, developed when facing the challenges of running corporate training departments in the 1980’s and 90’s.
In 1995, looking for a solution to corporate training classes whose lessons were never applied, she enrolled in a coaching school. That's where she saw the power of coaching to make the mental shifts required to sustain change.
She was president of the International Coach Federation in 2000, among the first 25 people to be certified as Master Certified Coach. She's president elect for the Association for Coach Training Organization and Training Director for the Healthcare Coaching Institute. She's on the faculty with coach training schools in Russia and China.
She holds a Doctorate degree in Organizational Psychology.
Joy is her new single and Joy is what she has.
What makes the title of her single so amazing is that she’s been through a serious illness that could have ended her life, but God healed her. A breast cancer survivor and a nurse, she is helping to inspire other women who have been diagnosed with this dreaded disease. Grateful for life with a newfound “joy”, she’s singing His praises.
Listen as Nicole interviews Marcia about her journey and new single.

Daniel is best known as "Darryl" from the 1988 sci-fi cult classic THE RETURN OF SWAMP THING. The
sequel to Wes Craven's original film finds the DC Comics superhero again battling the evil Dr. Arcane (Louis
Jourdan) and vying for the affection of Arcane's stepdaughter Abigail (Heather Locklear). Darryl and his
friend Omar constantly find themselves in trouble. Luckily, Swampy has a tendency of saving the day!
From there, Daniel did several television appearances (including IN THE HEAT OF THE NIGHT and the
critically acclaimed I'LL FLY AWAY) before finding himself in the 2000 Dreamworks comedy ROAD TRIP
opposite comedy stars Tom Green and Ethan Suplee. More recently, he has become quite prolific in the
realm of independent horror and has worked with many of the genre greats such as Robert Englund, James
Hampton, Tiffany Shepis, Michael Berryman, Bill Moseley, Tony Todd, and Danielle Harris.
In 2012, Daniel and business partner Jim O'Rear formed Deviant Pictures. Their inaugural project, THE
HOSPITAL, is currently available from most online retailers and video-on-demand services. A controversial
film from the beginning, THE HOSPITAL rocked audiences with its visceral content and taboo subject
matter. Taking the sickness worldwide, THE HOSPITAL played several international festivals including the
prestigious Festival de Cannes.

Southport, NC – Practicing and competing involve two distinct mind-sets. While practicing is an intellectual activity, competing is intuitional. When we have a problem on the golf course or the baseball field, our natural tendency is to go back and work on the physical, mechanical aspects of our performance, but you can’t simulate the stress and pressure of competition. What needs to be addressed is your mental focus.
Dr. Marcia Whiting is the founder of Coastal Counseling Clinic, a general counseling practice with a unique focus on sports counseling, specifically golf. Dr. Whiting is the author of Get Birdies: The Mental Aspect of Golf and the creator of the acclaimed golf instructional video: DVI: Determination, Visualization and Implementation, which teaches players to overcome the obstacles presented in competition by our analytical mind.
“A typical golf coach is more interested in the mechanics of your swing and the rules of the game,” says Dr. Whiting. “I am only focused on the problem area of thinking. It’s not their swing, it’s their thinking.”
According to Dr. Whiting, there was a prisoner of war who was kept in a cage for seven years. In order to maintain his sanity through this experience, every day he would play a visual game of golf, complete with the time of year, weather, clothing, where the tees were, where the hole was on the green, all in his mind. He played a perfect game of golf every day in his mind for seven years with no mistakes. He entered the service with a handicap of 16. When he returned home, his handicap was 5.
“It’s all about being present,” says Dr. Whiting. “You’ve done all the necessary work. Decide what you want on your shot; visualize it landing where you want it to land and swing. We do the thinking, analyzing and processing part later.”
It's been 6 years since her last visit to the show. Now Marcia Ann Gillespie, Fomer Editor of Ms. and Essence, returns to Conversations LIVE to talk with host Cyrus Webb about the life and legacy of Dr. Maya Angelou that was captured in the book she co-write called MAYA ANGELOU: A Glorious Celebration.
