Guillermo Rigondeaux returns this weekend live from Macao, China when he defends his 122 lb. championship against Sod Kokietgym, on the under card of another fight headlined by Zou Shiming in China. Now while Shiming and Gilberto Ramirez will have their fights televised on HBO 2 in the afternoon, Rigondeaux’s fight will be played on tape delay on UNIMAS late in the evening.
There’s no denying Rigondeaux’s talents and his status as one of the best pound for pound technicians in the sport of boxing. But to many boxing fans and to HBO executives, it’s a style that turns off many and in essence a reason why Rigondeaux has been relegated to fighting on UNIMAS, instead of HBO.We will with out a shadow of a doubt be taking live calls on air from you the voice of the people. Two-time Olympic Gold Medalist and Super Bantamweight king Guillermo Rigondeaux was back in the ring for the first time this year in what was initially and correctly recognised as a mismatch against little known Thai fighter Sod Kokietgym.
Rigondeaux has been a victim of his own greatness, a fighter who rightfullystated earlier in the week that he doesn’t make mistakes but after being booed for being “too defensive” in the past, had promised to fight more aggressive in this one and he kept his word, landing a flush left hand just ten seconds into the round. We will with out a shadow of a doubt be taking live calls on air from you the voice of the people. So "Canelo" Alvarez's split decision win over Erislandy Lara wasn't face-melting action. Was it even a win? What does Canelo do next? Did Lara really run all night? Did a robbery take place? Does Canelo's carpet match his drapes??? ...we're asking from an interior design perspective. Bad Left Hook's James Foley and Patrick Connor of Queensberry Rules will answer all of these questions and more, as they recap the entire PPV, including Abner Mares' tedious win over Jonathan Oquendo, Francisco Vargas' huge victory over JuanMa Lopez and Mauricio Herrera's fun one with Johan Perez. Oh yeah, and Jeff Lacy :( And up for next weekend, another show from Macau featuring Zou Shiming that includes Guillermo RIgondeax, Rex Tso, Gilberto Sanchez and Brian Viloria. Thanks for tuning in!

Erislandy Lara fought an intelligent fight Saturday night, frustrating Canelo Alvarez with his quickness, movement, longer reach and his seeming ease at slipping punches.
But in the end Alvarez's body work won over at least one of the judges decisively as he came away with a split decision victory in a 12-round light middleweight bout at the sold-out MGM Grand Garden Arena.
Judge Levi Martinez scored it 117-111 for Alvarez, while Jerry Roth scored it 115-113 for Lara and Dave Moretti had it 115-113 for Alvarez.
Lara landed 10 more total punches than Alvarez, but Alvarez was well ahead on power punches, landing most of them to Lara's body.
Canelo, the 23-year-old Mexican superstar, is 44-1-1 with 31 KOs, and Lara, 31, who defected twice from Cuba, is 19-2-2 with 12 KOs.
Lara said he was "100% sure" he won the fight and asked for a rematch.
"I still have no respect for him," he said. "I want a rematch. I will do the same and I will win again."
Alvarez said he would give Lara a rematch "when he learns to fight."
Alvarez earned $1.5 million and Lara $1 million for the fight. Lara's WBA light middleweight title was not up for grabs in the non-title fight, which was contracted at 155 pounds, one pound over the 154-pound limit.

As surprisingly good as fights have been lately, we can only replay them so many times. We're boxing fans. We need to be constantly entertained, or we get pissy. Luckily we're kind of being thrown a bone this coming weekend with a high level match up in Saul "Canelo" Alvarez vs. Erislandy Lara. It's the type of bout that, on paper at least, is excllenet in just about every aspect. But don't worry. Bad Left Hook's James Foley and Patrick Connor of Queensberry Rules will find things to complain about -- like a weak undercard and the fact that it's on Pay-Per-View. Or perhaps that Ruslan Chagaev holds a heavyweight "belt" again. Who knows? Either way, thanks for tuning in!
