Milling About at The Nonantum Resort
Milling About visits The Nonantum Resort in Kennebunkport, Maine which is rich in history dating back to 1884 when Henry Heckman built a stately home overlooking the Kennebunk River to honor his ship's captain brother David, lost at sea. The name Nonantum is Algonquin Indian meaning 'rejoicing;' fitting for the resort celebrating over 125 years. The lobby of the Carriage House is homey with a welcoming fireplace and fresh baked blueberry scones, featuring Maine's finest fruit. The original old-fashioned elevator with iron gated door and manual lever is refurbished, and is still used to ferry guests.
General Manager Tina Gordon, celebrating her 21 season, joins host Robin Milling to talk about the hotel's newest finds which have been discovered through renovations such as the original hotel safe, and a priceless stash of letters from guests to the innkeeper found inside horsehair plaster in the walls from the early 1900s. Tina says there is a resident ghost Sadie who likes to hang out by the fireplace, and kitchen spirits who have been known to move pans and throw things off the top of the refrigerator to get the staff's attention!
Innkeeper Jean Ginn Marvin who left a life of politics in Maine legislature for hospitality, makes sure she walks 10,000 steps a day making the guests happy. When at The Nonantum drive along Ocean Drive, and in less than 1.2 miles you'll get a glimpse of President George Bush's summer estate which sits on it's own private little island at Walker's Point. With Terrorism in our midst. As one of this city’s most cherished rites of spring was transformed from a scene of cheers and sweaty triumph to one of screams and carnage. After two powerful bombs exploded near the finish line of the Boston Marathon, killing three people, and injuring more than a 100.
We ask the questions, who attacked us and why? Who are these radical extremists?
With all the extremist groups and Al Qaeda cells throughout the US, how do we protect ourselves and our nation? And, How does the FBI hunt for a bomber?
We have terrorism intelligence specialist, Stephen C. Denny, with over seventeen years experience. Hired by the FBI , He was assigned to the Terrorism Task Force, where he participated in numerous high-profile investigations including the 1993 WTC bombing, Unabomber, and the Oklahoma City Bombing. In 2000, he was assigned as a senior agent with the fabled New York Terrorism Task Force in the FBI’s New York City office. Later Agent Denny was recruited as Deputy Director for The Investigative Project for Terrorism, a Washington D.C. based research and consulting think-tank focused on terrorism and counter-terrorism initiatives, and conducted numerous interviews on national television and radio that included The O’Reilly Factor, Lou Dobbs, Geraldo Rivera, just to name a few.
Mr. Denny has also appeared on NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams as one of the nations few experts on a radical-fundamentalist group based in Pakistan. In 2007 he appeared in the award winning PBS series, “America at a Crossroads.”

Known as the “Emperor,” Shields Green played a role in John Brown’s Raid on Harper's Ferry. As a young man he escaped through the Underground Railroad network to Rochester, New York, where Frederick Douglass provided shelter and introduced him to radical abolitionists. He accompanied Frederick Douglass to Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, where the great abolitionist spoke to John Brown for the last time. Brown was unsuccessful in convincing Douglass to join him in the raid; he did, however, recruit the young Green.

Heavens Child:
As a recently divorced single parent, Caroline and her three young children boarded the ferry on the Seattle side of Puget Sound for a fresh start on tranquil Bainbridge Island. And, while five-year-old Christopher quickly embraced the new adventure, eleven-year-old twins, Caiti and Sarah, remained trapped in a quicksand of rage and resentment. Though hurt and disappointed, Caroline was optimistic that the girls’ pain and confusion would pass.
But, after four years, when she remarried and was expecting her fourth child, the situation reached a boiling point that tore the family apart and sent the girls to live with relatives. When, at last, they came back together and the twins were days away from starting their junior year of high school, Sarah and seven other teens went for a midnight joy ride that ended her life, shattered her twin sister, and brought strife and discord to a formerly quiet and complacent community.
