Obstacle course racing is the next soccer. Yeah, it's a 'thing'. You've probably heard of one. Or know someone who has---or will---do one. They change lives.
And for us MyFixitUpLifer's there's an extra cool part: It's loaded with DIY of building stuff. So if you’re not lacing up for your own obstacle course racing journey, without people to build the obstacles—for races or for backyards---the race is just a walk in the woods. So this MyFixitUpLife show will inspire the fire for the DIY of OCR.
Spartan Race’s (in)famous Race Director Norm Koch takes us behind the spectacle where the tools are machetes and chainsaws and a whole lotta work. And HGTV’s John Colaneri—co-host of America’s Most Desperate Kitchens and a Spartan racing / Cross-fit nut job (we love you anyway Johnny)—chimes in with fitness tips he uses to stay extra handsome.
This isn't about the gym. Or how fast you go. It's about life itself and building your own tools for the journey. As someone I admire wrote: I already know what it feels like to fail. I want to see what it's like to succeed.
Life happens to all of us. It's what we do about it that counts; how we handle the obstacles.
So tool up and come obstacle course racing with us Lifers, time for a little dirty fun.

I wanted to throw the magazine across the floor! You're kidding me!
The Knot DC, Maryland & Virginia Magazine featured "18 Weddings We Love" on their front cover. But the Pricetag of 18 "real weddings"? Horror!!
So I was glad to see that, as usual, the Knot is attempting to connect with brides by showing them a more personalized approach to wedding planning, but flip through the pages, and you'll see what I see - the industry is really pushing the average price of weddings sky high.
Coming from The Knot? Pardon the pun, but it's just "knot" realistic. The overall US budget, which would apply to a lot of weddings in MD, VA, and DC, was $28,000.
Each of these "real weddings" had a code for the budget cost of the overall reception and dress. So out of five, $$$$$, the first "real wedding" couple had two, $$. So I'm thinkin' ... well, I hope it's a $10,000-$15,000 budget, but how did they manage the massive tent rental on that budget? Those can cost $10K themselves?
Catch my episode on Monday night at 11pm, and you'll find out just what $$ means to The Knot Spring 2015 DC, MD, VA edition.
Also joining Mark & Theresa on this episode is Celeste from Instructables.com. She's sharing some of the pallet inspiration and how-to from the site's recent pallet contest, and their archive of hundreds of DIY pallet projects.DIY pallet projects can be amazing additions to your landscape, but there are a few things you might want to know before you get started. Let's talk.
We've proclaimed HGTV host Matt Blashaw as the 'Pallet King' for his creative DIY pallet projects featured on DIY Network's 'Yard Crashers.' Not only has he designed and shared the how-to for his famous pallet into a chair project with Men's Health and USA Today, he also did an entire Las Vegas background in pallets for a showgirl. We believe that Matt has successfully created the current and trendy DIY love for DIY pallet projects.
So whether you are curious about DIYing with pallets or if you've gotten started on a pallet project and are looking for a few tips from the 'Pallet King' Matt Blashaw, you'll want to tune into this episode. (Oh, and when you watch the YouTube show, you'll get to take a peek at Matt in his kitchen, too.)
Matt is a licensed contractor and a licensed Realtor. His on-camera career started in 2006 when he participated in DIY Network's 'Stud Finder.' Since then he has hosted Yard Crashers, Deconstruction, Project Xtreme, Money Hunters, Blog Cabin and Professional Grade, and specials such as Cool Tools Builders Show, Stud Finder 2009, HGTV's Rose Parade coverage and Worst Kitchen In America. Currently you'll find him on HGTV's "Vacation House for Free' that airs Sunday afternoons.
We hope you enjoy this episode of MyFixitUpLife. If you have any questions or comments along the way to your DIY dreams with pallets, MyFixitUpLife's Mark & Theresa are always just a FB post or Tweet away from helping out.

In our quest to create the life of our dreams, and to be the people we’ve always imagined ourselves being, we must become willing to truly take a look at ourselves, take a personal inventory, so that we can get a better sense of our strengths and weaknesses.
Now this, admittedly, can seem downright overwhelming. In many ways, it can seem like we are on a mining expedition seeking out negativity. And if all we’re going to do is pick ourselves a part, then what’s going to be left? We might end up feeling like Swiss cheese - full of holes.
But we have to realize that coming to terms with our defects of character is only looking at part of the picture. If we concentrate only on our flaws and our weaknesses, then we are leaving out our strengths.
In this podcast we learn that an inventory is simply an accurate account of what you have and what you don’t. And what you have is just as an important part of the equation as what is lacking.
And we will ultimately find that a strong foundation, on which to build the life of your dreams, cannot be constructed from failures. They have to be built on our strengths. Our failures can serve to redirect us, but in the end, it will be the positive aspects of ourselves, our victories that will motivate us to keep moving forward, and out of the ruts of the past.

How many times have we found ourselves in a situation with someone where he or she will not back down from an argument? No matter what, that person insists he or she is correct. Situations like this are often unpleasant and frustrating and we often don’t think very highly of people who must be right at all costs.
We have to ask ourselves, though, how often do we do the very same thing? Our first reaction is likely that we’re not like that at all. But is that really the case? Are we more like the person who has to be right; only to lesser degrees?
How many disagreements could possibly be solved by simply harmoniously agreeing to disagree? It is possible. It merely requires us to change our perspective. It demands that we stop seeing the world from a self righteous viewpoint.
In this podcast we learn that when we find ourselves in one of those tense situations where we just have to prove our point, we can defuse the situation by asking ourselves, “Would I rather be right, or would I rather happy?”
We will find that momentary feeling of victory, of winning the point, or the whole match, is fleeting, because friction and strife is not likely getting you where you want to go. It is not creating stronger bonds. It is not moving you in the direction of personal growth. It’s really keeping you stuck.
We’ll discover that sometimes we simply have to decide between being right, or being happy. Because the reality is, that you can’t always be both.
