Instead of acquiring a richer and fuller knowledge of U.S. history and civics, American students and adults display astounding ignorance of them, and their blindness is matched by their indifference to the problem. Our political sphere is now understood as a contest of group interests. Patriotism and the common good are quaint notions. Individualism has evolved from “rugged” versions of the past into group identities and entitlement-seeking. People pay more attention to their Facebook page than to the newspaper. Self-reliance has become a spurious boast (“You didn’t build that”) and dependency has become a tactical claim. Instead of upholding basic liberties, more and more Americans accept restrictions on speech, freedom of association, rights to privacy, and religious conscience.
After sharing my views on what is happening to America History, nationally renowned writer and social critic, Mark Bauerlein (Senior Editor at First Things and Professor of English at Emory Universit, and author) will join us to discuss "The State of the American Mind".
Hope you will join us "In the Pickle Barrel".
Racial prejudice—and the systemic injustice that incorporates racial bias into our policing—is eating us up from the inside like a cancer. This is a national disgrace, and if we don't do something about it, we will all pay a terrible, terrible price. The conditions in America do not have to be identical to Nazi Germany in the 1930s and 1940s for America to be a police state and a fascist dictatorship! If we examine the essence of a police state--destruction of Constitutional rights, genocidal murder of the working class by capitalist predators, deliberate criminal acts by government officials--then America in the twenty-first century is unquestionably a police state!.Tonight we will discuss The United Police States of America.
In this episode of The Red Light Sports Ramble, presented by The Red Light Sports Network, Evan Witalison and Troy Otradovec will wrap up the MLB trades. It was another busy day in MLB, as the non-waiver trade deadline ended today. The Milwaukee Brewers traded Gerardo Parra to the Balitimore Orioles. A day after shipping Carlos Gomez and Mike Fiers to Houston for four propspects, the Brewers acquired another young right handed pitcher, Zach Davies.
The New York Mets did get an outfielder before the deadline. The Detroit Tigers sent Yoenis Cespedes to the Mets for two right handed pitchers Michael Fulmer and Luis Cessa. Now that the non-waiver trade deadline is over, we will let the dust settle and see how the players perform for their new teams. What are your thoughts on all of the trades? Listen in and call the show.
