Eating Disorder Treatment - Insurance Coverage with Lisa Kantor

    in Health

Join me tonight as I talk with Lisa Kantor, a Los Angeles lawyer and partner in Kantor & Kantor LLP. Lisa Kantor represents people denied health benefits for treatment of both physical and mental illnesses. Most recently, Ms. Kantor has focused her efforts litigating insurance company denials of coverage for residential treatment of eating disorders. Kantor & Kantor is the only law firm in the country with a distinct eating disorder practice staffed with lawyers and other professionals experienced in the specific needs of people who have been denied benefits for eating disorder treatment.

In 2007, she won the first published eating disorder decision in California in which the court applied the state’s mental health parity law to beneficiaries who sought treatment outside California. In August 2012, she won the first federal court ruling that determined health plans must pay for all medically necessary treatment for mental illnesses, including residential treatment.

Borderline Personality Disorder: Roopa Grewal's Story

    in Health

Arguably one of the most misunderstood and stigmatized mental illnesses, Roopa Grewal educates us on living with Borderline Personality Disorder.

Admittedly, I believed the negative hype about Borderline Personality Disorder as individuals with aggrandized and emotional drama-seekers...until I actually met people who suffer with the disorder. Not only are people with BPD incredible human beings, but they are some of the most resilient individuals I have come in contact with. I cannot imagine what it must be like to not only struggle with the debilitating symptoms of BPD but to also endure the crippling stigma surrounding the diagnosis.

It's time to take a better and more positive look at Borderline Personality Disorder. It's time to start treating individuals with this disorder without stigma or judgment. Roopa Grewal is an example of what it is going to take to change this perception. She proudly speaks out about her story and the reality of Borderline Personality Disorder.

Tune in to hear my interview with her and to learn more about the highly stigmatized diagnosis that is Borderline Personality Disorder.
