HEALTH MEDIA NOW-LIZ CROKIN-SECRETS TO OVERCOMING SERIOUS ILLNESSES

    in Health

Please join us this Thursday, January 14, 2016 at 4:00 p.m. PST and 7:00 p.m. EST with our host, Denise Messenger.  Our special guest is Liz Crokin and we will be discussing her book, "Malice".  She is a seasoned journalist who covered Hollywood full-time for over a decade until October 8, 2012, when doctors diagnosed her with viral meningitis.  The disease swelled her brain, left her with brain damage and unable to work or care for herself. Tests later proved that she had hsv2-meningitis and her illness stemmed from the herpes 2 (genital herpes) her ex-boyfriend knowingly exposed and infected her with.  Her goal is to educate and help others who have struggled with disease, a disability or fallen victim to a sexual assault.  You asked for it and we deliver!

People's Free Medical Research Health Clinics

We believe that the government must provide, free of charge,
for the people, health facilities that will not only treat our illnesses, most of which are a result of our oppression, but that will also develop preventative medical programs to guarantee our future survival. We believe that mass health education and research programs must be developed to give all Black and oppressed people access to advanced sCienti c and medical information, so we may provide ourselves with proper medical attention and care.

Point Six of the Black Panther Party Program's Platform of March 29, 1972, explains the reasons for the institution ofthe People's Free Medical Research Health Clinics, which provide free medical treatment and preventative medi cal care for the community. Private hospitals and doctors charge fees far more expensive than poor people can a ord, while public hospitals and clinics are so overcrowded and understa ed that their services are almost totally inade quate. The People's Free Medical Research Health Clinics o er an alternative to this problem.

The clinics provide comprehensive health care for the community. Doctors treat  patients for common physical ailments and refer them to spe cialists if necessary. Laboratory testing is also provided in conjunction with local hospitals.

Along with the Sickle-Cell Anemia Research Foundation, the clinics con duct testing and research for a cure for sickle-cell anemia.

Child health is a serious problem in the Black community, and the clinics have developed a ChildHealth Care Program to meet this community need. The Child Health Care Program provides immunizations; screening and sickle cell anemia iron de ciency anemia, and tuberculosis; referrals; and complete physi cal examinations as well as treatment of illnesses." Another Fork in the Road: Responsible Resolutions Cam Compton & Lisa Dryer

    in Education

Brain injury survivors, Lisa Dryer and Cam Compton join me to discuss reasonable and responsible and realistic resolutions in the new year. Cam and Lisa both are challenged by many health issues. Lisa is living with Multiple Sclerosis, (MS.) and Cam had a stroke nearly four years ago. Their debilitating illnesses take a toll on each of their lives. Were going to find out how Cam and Lisa approach resolutions in the new year, how they decide if they are reasonable challenges, and how they attack their illnesses to make their lives better.

Every TBI survivor and caregiver has encountered a fork in the road that has diverted his or her life-plan. A car accident, a fall from the roof, doing one more chin-up, or a door literally slamming one in the face are just some causes of traumatic brain injury. College plans, walking down the aisle in the perfect dress, or the coveted job quickly slip from reality as dreams turn to struggle. These unexpected life-happenings that divert one from his or her chosen path in life can be devastating. But as Yogi Berra once said, "If you come to a fork in the road, take it." Life is all about choices!

The Romans A.D. Bible Ushered In Mental Down Syndrome Murders Increased

    in Music

The American Psychological Association (APA), after a five year study on devoutly religious people, will now consider an unassailable belief in a deity or a higher power to a point where it impairs one's ability to make conscientious decisions about common sense matters, as a mental illness.  The study showed that deeply religious people often suffered from paranoia, anxiety, emotional distress and hallucinations. The study also states that those who had poor health conditions considered God cruel, and those who consider God kind usually did not suffer from mental illnesses. To give an example, Dr. Lillian Andrews, professor of psychology, said that the 'Jehovah Witnesses' will not accept life-saving donor blood under any circumstance and rather choose to die. According to the professor, such people should be declared 'mentally unfit' for decision making and saved using any appropriate method. The APA will persuade law makers to introduce legislation which would allow doctors the right to force life-saving treatment on those who refuse it for spiritual reasons. Dr. Andrews also considers people claiming to possess self-healing powers, ability to communicate directly to a God and power to see spirits, as signs of a mental break and a loss of touch with reality. The new classification of archaic beliefs as mental disorder is treated as a step towards positive direction by the APA.  More details about the study will be made available to the public in APA's upcoming journal that is expected to be released in August.
