One of the top 5 poets of 2005! ---Preditors & Editors 2005 Readers Poll "I am an old dog in the literary game, and I have not seen anyone to date with the passion, or the guts to present the brutal truths, and honesty of life like Istre has. It has been said that Istre is just another "Bukowski, rippoff", cashing in like for instance "chi cheng of the deftones"... such is not the case at all. Istre is indeed an individual entity unlike any other writer out there. The fact the he remains mainly "underground is in it's own right phenomenal. I have read Istre"s first book "shocking tales"..that was a great book but Istre's second endeavour is far greater in comparison." ---Henry Weiss He is the first author ever published by Black Bed Sheet Books' Nicholas Grabowsky. It has been quite a journey for ISLANDER, who, in just over a year, have gone from obscurity to a band in constant radio rotation. Fueled with a combination of emotionally capturing songs and audience grabbing live shows, ISLANDER continue to lead at the forefront of their peers. The thrilling trip for this quartet began in the foothills of Greenville, S.C. with the release of their Victory Records debut Pains in 2013. Now, a lethal combination of alt-rock, punk and nu-metal that recalls the finest of bands like Refused and Deftones, ISLANDER have released their full length Violence & Destruction to critical recognition. Comprised of members Mikey Carvajal on vocals, Andrew Murphy on guitar, drummer Eric Frazier and bassist Chris Doot, ISLANDER recorded the album with producer Cameron Webb (SILVERSTEIN, ALKALINE TRIO) at Hollywood's NRG Studios. It is twelve tracks of American rock anthems spawned by individual struggle and organic affection. The result is a refreshing and unpredictable performance of cutting edge, modern-day rock with classic punk overtones fused with groove laden beats. Violence & Destruction awakens the nerves and lets life in. From the blockbuster single 'Coconut Dracula', to the outlaw collaboration of 'Criminals' with P.O.D.'s Sonny Sandoval and the fist-pumping title track, ISLANDER sonically 'demonstrate that fragile dichotomy between softness and weight in a riff', as described by Noisey/Vice. Alternative Press confirmed that ISLANDER was one the '100 Bands You Need To Know' as 2014 continues to shine with festival confirmations at Aftershock in Sacramento and Louder Than Life in Louisville. To celebrate our 40th episode, special guests Richie Londres(Sol Invicto, Cultura Londres) & Eric Bobo(Cypress Hill , Sol Invicto,Cultura Londres) will be joining us for an anything goes type of show as we will just go with the flow and talk about anything! This is a one of a kind show, you won't want to miss it.
Richie Londres, (born in London, England) is an English musician, hip hop record producer, lead guitarist and multi-instrumentalist and runs Altered Beats Records. Londres has worked with Deftones and Cypress Hill on various projects. Londres is active in two bands, as a founding member of and producing Sol Invicto and Cultura Londres as well as remixing for various artists he is published by Universal Records.
Eric Bobo (born Eric Correa, August 27, 1968) is a percussionist and a member of the bands Cypress Hill, Cultura Londres Proyecto and Sol Invicto, and has also performed and recorded with the Beastie Boys throughout the 1990s. With a recommendation from a friend, he got an audition with the Beastie Boys and was accepted to join them on their national "Check Your Head" tour. Bobo ended up recording with the Beastie Boys for the albums Ill Communication and Hello Nasty. While on tour with the Beasties, Bobo met Cypress Hill and joined the group as their percussionist for their world tours, splitting time between both groups. As the Beastie Boys began taking major touring breaks, Bobo became an official full time member of Cypress Hill at the historic festival Woodstock '94 and has toured and recorded with the group ever since.
A Thousand Colours –Houston, Texas natives A Thousand Colours began 2013 with 3 nominations for the Texas Buzz Awards (Alternative Band of the Year, Band of the Year, and Guitarist of the Year – Kenyon Puntenney). Comprised of former members of several heavy-hitting bands in the south (Morningside Drive, The Finalist, Makeshifte, and American Fangs to name a few), the band has already gained notoriety within the first year of its development. The singer, Kenyon Puntenney, is the son of singer-songwriter Saylor White (known for recording with such Country Music legends as Lyle Lovett, Nancy Griffen, and European artist Calvin Russel). Spending his life brought up in a fog of Folk Festivals, open mic-nights, and singer-songwriter showcases, Puntenney learned his talent for guitar by ear at an early age. During his time in American Fangs he toured with known acts such as Sick Puppies, Hurt, Saul Williams, Deftones, Theory of a Deadman, 10 Years, and more. He states A Thousand Colours is what he’d like to think of as “the modest man’s band”. The group has no interest in the rock-n-roll lifestyle or super stardom, but wants to create music that “thrills us as songwriters” for a living. Other notable accomplishments from band members include: Rick Graham (bassist) who performed at 2006 Lollapalooza, and toured with Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, Hawthorne Heights, and played select dates on Taste of Chaos, SXSW, and Warped Tour; Doug Adams (drummer) played with The Finalist touring the US, recorded a full length album with legendary producer G.G. Garth, and was signed at the age of 18 to Maverick Records.
Digital Summer is a unmistakable modern rock band originating from Phoenix, Arizona. Made up of heavy/melodic guitars and raw emotional vocals, Digital Summer creates an edgy, yet soothing tone for a radio friendly world. Influenced by multiple music genres, Digital Summer is a rock band to the core, not a “trend” by any means. Digital Summer is known for their professional songwriting ability, energetic live show and seemingly endless promotional antics. Digital Summer has had 5 singles in rotational play on major market radio (KUPD, OCTANE, WGRD, WWBN, WIIL, WZBH, WXQR, KHTO, KRDJ, KTUX and more.), “Whatever It Takes”, "Disconnect”, “Just Run”, "Hostage" and the current single “Forget You” have been among the top requested songs on each station. Aside from sharing the stage with bands like Alice in Chains, Godsmack, Deftones, Disturbed and Five Finger Death Punch, they have also toured nationally with Sevendust, Drowning Pool, 10 Years, Saliva and 12 Stones. Digital Summer is not your “typical” rock band by a long shot. Along with being professional musicians, the members manage to maintain additional professional careers. Front man Kyle Winterstein is currently a Firefighter/Paramedic/Technical Rescue Specialist. His brother and guitarist, Ian Winterstein (Sponsored by Shecter) is a Flight Medic on a helicopter. Guitarist Jon "Bubba" Stephenson is an accountant. Bassist Anthony “Guido” Hernandez (Sponsored by Spector) is finishing his business degree in marketing. These additional careers are what drive the lyrical and emotional foundation of what Digital Summer's music is about. For more information, visit www.digitalsummer.net
Formed in February 2010, Red Calling is a hard rock band based in Tampa, FL. Each of its four members bring together different backgrounds of music to form a warm and intense sound. With the combined songwriting of Javier Pons (Guitar/Synthesizer) and Jessica Pons (Vocals/guitar/keyboard), and with the technical workings of Luis Pons (Bass/Synthesizer) and drummer Destiny Covault, the lineup was complete. In February 2011, the band released their first E.P , containing the single “Let me fade”. From its members to its music, Red Calling is as appealing to listen to, as they are to witness live.
A touch of Deftones, a dash of Lacuna Coil and a heap of The Gathering, with lots of piano and synths. Electrifying and unpredictable, our music is like dark watercolors mixed with ashes; brutal yet tender.
