FLORIDA IS UNDER A PUSH FOR OVERREACHING DEVELOPMENT NOT SEEN SINCE THE SALE OF SWAMP LAND AS HOMESITES IN THE EARLY 1920'S. THE DRIVING FORCE IS GOVERNOR SCOTT AND HIS CRONY-CAPITALIST BUSINESS BUDDIES AND THEIR QUEST FOR EXCESS PROFITS ON THE BACKS OF THE GOOD CITIZENS AND HOME OWNERS. LOOK, WE GET IT. DEVELOPMENT AND GROWTH WILL ALWAYS HAPPEN, BUT DO THEY HAVE TO HAPPEN AT THE TOTAL COST OF THE SWAMPS, SPRINGS AND THE TOTAL LIFESTYLE OF RURAL RESIDENTS? NO, THEY DON'T BUT THE CURRENT PUSH MOVING INTO NORTH FLORIDA IF LEFT UNCHECKED WILL RESULT IN A MIAMI NORTH OR WORSE. IF THAT HAPPENS, IT WON'T MATTER HOW MANY NEW RESIDENTS AND CORPORATIONS HE BRINGS TO THE STATE WHEN THE WELL RUNS DRY. WE'LL ALL BE LOOKING FOR A NEW HOME.
MATT SURRENCY, THE MAYOR OF THE SMALL CITY OF HAWTHORNE WILL BE MY GUEST AS WE TRY TO FIND A MIDDLE GROUND AND SOME COMMON SENSE SOLUTIONS ON NORTH FLORIDA WRITER LIVE THURSDAY NIGHT AT 9. THIS IS A PROBLEM NOT JUST IN FLORIDA BUT EVERYWHERE, SO WE HOPE YOU'LL JOIN US AS WE TRY TO TURN A WIN-LOSE INTO A WIN-WIN SITUATION. HOPING TO KEEP YOU INFORMED OF WHAT IS GOING ON A REAL TOPSY-TURVY WORLD.
A home is not a home because of its room dimensions or the color of the walls. It is about how you feel when you walk through the front door. And the way you can instantly envision your life unfolding there.
This is about more than real estate. It is about your life and your dreams.

Leonard Todd is the author of CAROLINA CLAY, the story of the slave potter known as Dave. Newsweek calls it “a fascinating account.” Publishers Weekly describes it as “a sweeping tale of the South itself.” It was a finalist for The National Award for Arts Writing, and it won the South Carolina Center for the Book Award for Writing. It is published by W. W. Norton.
Born in South Carolina, Leonard was educated at Yale University. He is a former Fulbright Scholar to France. He lived for many years in New York City, where he began his writing career with travel articles, short stories, and novels for young adults. Two of his novels, set in areas of the South that he knew well as a boy, were optioned for film productions.
Author Leonard Todd will be talking with us about the great ceramic artisan known as “Dave,” who lived in South Carolina during the 19th century. He was a potter, a poet, and a slave.
For many years, very few details were known about this enigmatic man. Leonard, however, discovered a startling personal link to him and set out to uncover his story. The prize-winning book, CAROLINA CLAY, is the result.
Leonard now lives with his wife, a poet, in Edgefield, South Carolina, where he recently wrote the book, lyrics, and music for his first theatrical musical, SUNNY DAY, which had its premiere at the Edgefield County Theatre Company.
Leonard has told Dave’s story to audiences at the Smithsonian, at Oxford, on National Public Radio, and today he will be telling it to us.
In this episode we will be talking to Ryan Young from Molecular Reptile about his approach to keeping and breeding White Lipped Pythons. He has successfully bred this species 3 years in a row. White lipped pythons are a more advanced species of python that are being kept in the reptile hobby today.
We will talk in depth about his approach and what really makes this species tick.

Ryan Rocks It Asbury Park Style with Former Mayor of Asbury Park, NJ, Ed Johnson and Woman about town, Beverly Beveridge, Public Relations Director, FMC Productions, NYC. I am so excited to have these two very special personal friends of mine on my show once again. I have interviewed them both individually in the past and what we like to do is have FUN, FUN, FUN. So tune in to hear all about the "People-to-People Cultural Exchange Trip to CUBA" that was planned and realized by these two fantastic people. Of course to make such a trip possible Ed and Beverly had the welcomed assistance of many others plus a few talented United States musicians who completed the group to make this special historic trip.
Per Beverly, On Wednesday, 12/16/2015 an adventurous 14 member delegation met in Miami, Florida after many challenging months of planning to go to CUBA. The mission was to attend and perform at the "31 ST Annual Jazz Festival in Havana." On Thursday night, the group touched down into a time warp at the HAVANA INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT via Eastern Airlines # 737, with the AMERICAN FLAG on the plane. This plane landed on the 1 ST Anniversary of renewed diplomatic relations with Cuba. Their group stayed at the beautiful Miramar Section (aka "Embassy Row") of Havana just minutes from all of the excitement of the Old Town.
To hear all about this most historic event from the originators of the trip kindly call the guest line 213.943.3559 or go to blogtalkradio.com/ryan-rocks-it-asbury-park-style. Sit back and enjoy live talk radio at it's BEST!

Here at North Florida Writer Live we’re sure that the topic for Wednesday night is, at best, confusing to understand. But we’re fortunate to have our frequent guest, Meg Norris of Opt Out Georgia, bring us some exciting news about what is going on in Georgia to push for legislation to dramatically change the Common Core disaster that we see all over this great land. Meg also informed me about a businessman who has great knowledge of the real Cuba, Alex Gimenez, who will tell us about the plight of the poor Cuban people. An American by birth born to parents of Cuban and Argentinian descent, he is concerned about what we don’t know about Cuba. While we are opening doors and lifting the embargo against Cuba per the President’s executive actions, the Cuban people are living under an internal embargo courtesy of the Castro regime. The poor citizens basically own nothing and serve as serfs for the state. In the words of the late and great Paul Harvey, Alex brings “the rest of the story”.
Alex is the father of two grown children and he is also very concerned about the educational system here in America and in his hometown of Atlanta. So we’ll also get his take on Common Core and what a good businessman with international experience, not a crony-capitalist as a lapdog to the state, thinks about the process and what should be done about it.
It should be a great discussion. The show goes live Wednesday night at 7. You won’t want to miss this one. See you then.
Today's show we're previewing the Carolina Panthers with Derek Tang from the AOSN.com - he's been a fan of the Panthers since they began and he is pumped for Super Bowl 50. We also talk about his beloved Duke Blue Devils and why less than a year after their championship run are they having so many problems.
TONIGHT AT 7 ON NORTH FLORIDA WRITER LIVE WE'LL CONTINUE WITH THE PLUM CREEK DEVELOPMENT STORY IN THE THIRD INSTALLMENT. WE'LL MOVE TO A DISCUSSION OF THE UNINTENDED AND NEGATIVE CONSEQUENCES THAT NEIGHBORS TO THE AMBITIOUS PROJECT WILL FACE AND HOW THEIR LIVES CAN LITERALLY BE TORN ABOUT. THE DISCUSSION YOU WILL HEAR IS A PART OF GEORGE SIBLEY'S EXCELLENT AUDIO PODCAST CREATED IN PART BY SUPPORT FROM THE SIERRA CLUB. AND I MUST ADMIT THAT THIS HUMBLE HOST IS INCLUDED AS ONE OF THE PARTICIPANTS SINCE i ALSO LIVE CLOSE BY THE WHERE THE ACTION WILL BE.
THE MAIN POINT BEING MADE IS THAT THE ENTIRE PROJECT IS OVERKILL, TRYING TO FORCE THE DEVELOPMENT OF A NEW CITY IN LOW, OFTEN FLOODED LAND WITH NO INFRASTRUCTURE. AND SINCE PLUM CREEK HAS MADE IT CLEAR THAT THEY WILL NOT DO ANYTHING TO ACTUALLY DEVELOP IT THEMSELVES, THE LOCAL TAXPAYERS, INCLUDING THOSE OF US DIRECTLY IMPACTED, WILL PAY THE PRICE BOTH IN TAXES AND LOSS OF QUALITY OF LIFE. DOES THE COUNTY GOVERNMENT CARE? ONLY TIME WILL TELL AND THAT WILL COME IN NEXT WEEK'S MASSIVE PUBLIC HEARINGS.
WE HOPE YOU'LL TUNE IN FOR WHEREVER YOU LIVE, DEVELOPMENTS OF THIS TYPE ARE BEING PLANNED THROUGHOUT THE UNITED STATES. I GUESS PEOPLE WILL FINALLY WAKE UP WHEN THE TREES ARE GONE, THE SPRAWL HAS LEFT BEHIND BOARDED UP COMMUNITIES AND WE'LL WONDER WHAT HAPPENED. SO PAY ATTENTION, YOU MIGHT LEARN A THING OR TWO THAT YOU CAN DO AS WELL.
Melissa and Ryan from lightworkersconnect.ca will be teaming up and giving readings live on the air to callers. We will be offering mini readings, but can be found at www.lightworkersconnect.ca for more in depth readings. We look forward to a great evening of love and light!!
