Happy Post Turkey Day, folks! Welcome to a new episode of Afronerd Radio's Grindhouse Saturdays with airings of The Comic Shoppe and Afronerd Radio at 6pm and 7pm, respectively. For The Comic Shoppe featuring Capt. Kirk, Daryll B. and Dburt, check out the latest musings of your "Podcast Avengers" as they discuss the following: our thoughts on the growing quality of online fan filmmakers a la the latest fantasy/non-canon matchup between Darth Vader and Batman, courtesy of Bat in the Sun Productions (wow, was it good!); JJ Abrams' Star Wars: The Force Awakens reboot teaser trailer hits the cyberwebs; and least we forget, the Jurassic World trailer also made its way online; what about that Concrete Park comic...why is it infectious? And lastly, (a holdover from last week), our picks of comics that should be movies/TV series and vice versa.

Kirk wax politic on the following issues: the fallout from the Ferguson grand jury decision; with socio-political opinions coming from the likes of Don Lemon and Pharrell Williams (and a faltering Cosby legacy), can Black dysfunctionalism ever be critiqued sans political correctness; NY Knick, JR Smith has a unique twist on the origins of Black Friday and finally, in the wake of the shooting death of a 12 year old with a toy gun-are Black deaths (in the media) on the rise or is it business as usual? The Lockheed F-117A Nighthawk was a wonder of the aviation world when it first appeared at air shows and exhibitions in 1989. Looking like something that Darth Vader might fly in a STAR WARS movie, the Nighthawk was the first warplane designed with signiture reduction ("stealth") at the core of its design. At the time, the Nighthawk was a generation ahead of any other aircraft or defensive system of its era. During its three decades of service, the F-117A flew combat missions during numerous air campaigns from Panama to the Persian Gulf. And for the dozens of books and hundreds of magazine articles, there have been surprisingly few actual accounts of what it was like to fly the Nighthawk into combat. That has changed however, with the publication by Zenith Press (@Zenith_Press) of STEALTH FIGHTER: A YEAR IN THE LIFE OF AN F-117 PILOT.
So join military historian, author and journalist John D. Gresham for Military Monday (#MilitaryMonday on the WriteStream Radio Network (#Writestream)) at 1 p.m. Eastern today when Hhs guest will be Lt. Col. William B. "Brad" O'Conner. USAF (Ret.). A career aviator in the U.S. Air Force, Lt. Col. O'Connor is the author of STEALTH FIGHTER: A YEAR IN THE LIFE OF AN F-117 PILOT, and a combat veteran of Operation Allied Force in 1999. In his book, Lt. Col. O'Connor gives the reader an intimate look at flying "the black jet" in combat, along with some candid opinions regarding the poor command and control of air power during the campaign. His insights should prove useful to listeners, trying to understand the present day their operations against ISIL in the Middle East. Tune in for what is sure to be an engaging hour on Military Monday.
Boo! Horror expert A.J. Hakari takes on Michael Myers and the Halloween film franchise during this visit to Movie Addict HQ. Also known as The Mad Movie Man, Hakari has written movie reviews and film commentary for such outlets as Terror Tube, Classic Movie Guide, Review Express, ReelTalk Movie Reviews and his own popular blog CineSlice.
The Michael Myers saga began back in 1978 with the release of John Carpenter's scary Halloween, which spawned an additional eight movies. Many horror fans believe that Michael Myers is the most evil character on film. If so, in what way is he more frightening than such villainous icons as Hannibal Lecter, Darth Vader, Dracula, The Mummy, etc.? Hakari plans to cover that topic as well as the popularity of the Halloween movies, how they have influenced the horror genre, the best and worst offerings of this franchise, importance of the theme music, standout performances in the Halloween films, and the Rob Zombie reboot of the franchise.
Waking Up the Ghost? I’ll let Marilyn explain:
“… the first time I heard that expression, I was sitting on a deserted island in the Exumas, with a jaundiced Bahamian named Sands. I think it is also the first time a Bahamian man has ever refused a free drink. What Sands meant, was that the icy beer I offered would lead to another, and another and another; it was safer to keep the Ghost in check by not drinking at all.”
A year and a half into her recovery Marilyn shares some insight on keeping the spirit(s) at bay.
