    Franchise Interview with Franchise Expert and Consultant Dante Vespignani

    We are meeting with Dante Vespignani of Turma Inc. dba, The Entrepreneuers Source. Dante Vespignani has spent his entire career in the food and restaurant industry. Prior to starting Turma, Inc., he entered the business in 1973 with an Arby’s franchisee, growing the franchise to 21 restaurants with two full service concepts

    Tequila Junction and the Samari Steakhouse, Switching from franchise to company operations Vespignani held various senior management positions before leaving in 1993 as Director Operations NE United States, encompassing over 800 restaurants with 227 franchise groups. Prior to starting his own restaurant consulting firm he was the Director of Franchise Operations/Sales for a start up, full serve restaurant chain, growing that concept to over 100 restaurants.

    Turma, Inc., DBA The Entrepreneurs Source, evolved as a need based organization, bridging the gap for many franchise operators with different concepts, whose expertise was lacking in the areas of marketing, operations, P&L and cost analysis. Additionally, there was a need for his considerable consulting/coaching skills in mentoring would be business owners, thru the often muddy waters of business ownership.

    A native of Pittsburgh, PA, he attended The Pennsylvania State University, Blanchard Training and Development, Management 2000 and various American Management Association courses. Married and now living outside Portland Maine, his business acumen and experience gives him a unique perspective of the models necessary to succeed in the New England market

    Nicholas Snow welcomes critically acclaimed Writer/Director Billy Clift (of Baby Jane? fame) to discuss not only his career, but his latest film, Hush Up Sweet Charlotte, an homage to the 1964 Hush…Hush Sweet Charlotte film starring the iconic actresses Bette Davis and Olivia de Havilland.  The film tells of an aging, reclusive Southern belle with a horrifying hidden family secret.  It tracks her descent into madness (with the help of a lost relative) as she fights to save her family’s historic plantation.

    In Clift’s film, the leads are parody performances by gender-illusionist superstars Matthew Martin and Varla Jean Merman.  The feature role of housekeeper Velma, originally performed by Agnes Moorhead, is played by Mink Stole, made famous by cult film director, John Waters.  Other cast members include accomplished comedian/actor Jason Stuart, star of stage and screen David Millbern, rising star Jesse Pepe, Raja Gemini of RuPaul’s Drag Race, plus San Francisco drag icons Katya Smirnoff Skyy, Ethel Merman, Honey Mahogony, Heklina and more.

    Filmmaker Amir Jaffer Discusses His Art

    Nicholas Snow welcomes writer, director, cinematographer and editor Amir Jaffer with producer Liz Grillo of the short film Mi Vida En El Baile / My Life in Dance.  The synopsis: At ninety Miguel Santos continues to share his love of Flamenco on stage and in workshops in San Francisco. In this short biopic, Miguel traces his artistic journey and shares events of his life that took him across the United States and to Spain, where he learned from the legends of Flamenco.  

    Amir began "exploring the world of filmmaking with his father’s video camera at the age of thirteen. He realized his childhood dream when he began working as an Independent Producer in San Francisco in 2005.  His earlier work focused more on content and subject matter than on a particular visual style. Influenced by filmmakers Rainer Ferner Fasbinder, Pedro Almodovar and Deepa Mehta, Amir focused on social issues that intrigued him and which ranged from gender identity to domestic violence to sexuality."

    Broderick Fox’s award-winning narrative, experimental, and documentary works present challenging, socially relevant issues through accessible, character-driven storytelling and have screened in over 50 international festivals. Fox’s last feature documentary The Skin I’m In (2012) had its world premiere at the Byron Bay International Film Festival in Australia, where he met Zenith Virago. She was an audience member who approached him after the screening, and their shared sensibilities and interests precipitated an immediate connection, leading to Fox's latest documentary, Zen and the Art of Dying.  Zenith is an activist and educator who for over 20 years has been leading Australia towards a more communal, celebratory, and creative engagement with death and dying. From her origins as a young mother in the UK, to her present day identity as a lesbian, feminist, and self-described deathwalker in the idyllic seaside town of Byron Bay, Her Zenith’s personal and professional experiences quietly challenge our core assumptions about life and dissolve our taboos around death. Nicholas Snow welcomes documentary filmmaker Rebecca Rice.  Her film We Do reveals the stories of three LGBT couples, their journeys for legal recognition of their relationships and the impact that the pursuit of marriage equality has on their lives before and after the Supreme Court ruling on June 26, 2015. 

    Rebecca Rice is an award-winning independent filmmaker whose projects include: Stealin’ Home (feature, 1995; winner of 3 festival awards), FLMKR (feature, 1999; Cannes Forum selection), Segregated Sunday (documentary short, 2000), Join the Food Chain! (PSA, 2004; Gracie Award, Emmy Nominee), Wanda the Wonderful (documentary feature, 2014), We Need To Talk About A.L.E.C. (documentary short, 2014) and We Do (documentary feature, 2015). Additionally, Rebecca has written and produced corporate programming for businesses and cable television. Her projects have featured the celebrity talents of Terry Bradshaw, Linda Gray, Peggy Fleming, Robert Wagner, Cheryl Ladd, Sharon Gless and Pat Summerall. Rebecca holds a Master of Fine Arts in Broadcast-Film from Southern Methodist University.
