The Dallas Cowboys Look to Keep Their Playoff Hopes Alive in Washington Sunday
By Brian Houston and Matthew Postins
Despite their inexplicable loss to the Green Bay Packers Sunday, the Dallas Cowboys (7-7) still control their own playoff destiny if they defeat Kirk Cousins and the Washington Redskins (3-11) Sunday in our nation’s capital. Sunday will mark the third week in a row the Cowboys will face a backup quarterback, and after being thwarted by the Chicago Bears Josh McCown and Packers backup Matt Flynn the last two games, can the Cowboys reverse the trend of losing to teams second string signal callers? Can the much maligned Cowboys defense stop Cousins and running back Alfred Morris, who has rushed for 1125 yards this season?
On the offensive side of the ball, can Bill Callahan, Jason Garrett and Tony Romo put together a game and carry it out without refusing to run the football if the situation demands it? Will the Cowboys be able to once again pick themselves up off the mat to compete for a chance to face the Eagles the final week of the season in winner take all for the NFC East crown and a first round home game in the playoffs?
If so, is this season considered a success or is change imminent s=despite what happens the rest of the way this season? All eyes in the NFL will be on the Dallas Cowboys and how they respond to the hostile criticism the team has received for their head scratching play calling that cost them the game aganst green Bay. Will Dallas finally rise to the occasion in a crucial game or will we see the same thing we have seen from Romo, Garrett and the Cowboys in these games that can define a team as a winner or just another also ran in today’s mediocre NFL.
Dave Nichols and Andy Holmes of District Sports Page discuss the Washington Redskins loss to the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday Night Football
Following their incredible meltdown against the Green Bay Packers, the Dallas Cowboys head out on the road against the Washington Redskins. Hoping to avoid a third straight loss to a backup quarterback, the Boys also must win if they want to guarantee Week 17 means something. A loss and it's upto the Chicago Bears to extend Dallas' season.
Dustin Copening is here with the Sports Narrative's Cowboys Pre Game Show for analysis of the epic collapse from last Sunday, and all of the other staples you've come to know and love throughout the season.
In the Coach's Slant we'll hear from Mike Shanahan about London Fletcher's retirment announcement, and his offense under Kirk Cousin's. We'll also discuss Coach Garrett and Kiffin's comments about their banged up linebacking corps.
Once we've gone Inside the Numbers, we'll hear about Cousin's respect for the Dallas D, and discuss how misplaced that sentiment appears to be. The linebackers who are going to play for the Cowboys this weekend talk about their preparation, and Witten and Romo comment on the smallest margin of error the offense has to work with.
Dustin has been fairly open about his doubts that Dallas has any chance against the Redskins, but does he have a last second change of heart? Maybe the "experts" will help sway him back over to Dallas' corner.
And finally, we'll discuss the Eagles and Bears matchup, along with other important playoff deciding games on the NFL schedule.
