USA Freedom Act: passed by relative landslide this week in GOP House, awaiting Senate action, reportedly ends direct state bulk collection of phone records revealed (again) by Snowden, forces telecoms into bulk collection role

Second Circuit Appeals court ruled this month that the Patriot Act did not, in fact, authorize the massive vacuuming up of people's communication data undertaken by U.S. spy agencies, despite ubiquitous, off-record claims to the contrary by "the intelligence community"

Court records can give the public some idea as to how the telecom oligopolies are responding to both of these events, indications being that a likely scenario is the largely unabated supply of communications information to the government

On May 31st of this year, Section 215 of the Patriot Act --used to support claims that nationwide, communications dragnet collection is authorized by law-- is expiring

Cyberwar-- NSA's dual responsibility of defending US networks and acquiring offensive capability for exploits like Stuxnet.

Commentary from Marcy Wheeler, Stuart Zechman and Jay Ackroyd. Political satire from Culture of Truth.

    in Movies

Joshua Davis is a writer, film producer and co-founder of Epic Magazine and Epic Digital. In 2013, Josh and Joshuah Bearman formed EPIC, a magazine devoted to telling extraordinary true stories. The venture comes on the heels of Argo, the Academy Award-winning film, which was based on an article Bearman wrote. Over the past 10 years, Josh and Bearman have sold 20 articles to Hollywood, with 2 films produced. In 2003, Josh covered the Iraq war for Wired Magazine, where he is a Contributing Editor. He has tracked rumors of genetically modified cocaine behind rebel lines in Colombia, investigated the world’s largest diamond heist, and hunted the source of a cyberwar in Russia. Josh's work has thrice been selected "Best of Technology Writing" by Yale University Press and has also been anthologized in the 2007 and 2012 editions of "Best American Science Writing." In 2014, he was nominated for a National Magazine Award. In 2005, Random House published Josh's memoir, "The Underdog," which details his journey through some of the world's most outlandish competitions. The Los Angeles Times calls it "laugh out loud funny," and Entertainment Weekly declares "the rewarding Underdog proves that Davis is a winner at something." Hamas rapidly rebuilds capabilities; Jordan vows 'relentless war' against ISIS

    in Current Events

    (Second Coming Watch #588)

    1. Hamas and allied terrorist organizations in Gaza have spent recent months intensively rebuilding their guerrilla terrorist capabilities, which sustained significant damage during Operation Protective Edge last summer.

    2. Jordan's King Abdullah vowed a "relentless" war against the Islamic State on their own territory in response to a video published by the hard-line group showing a captured Jordanian air force pilot being burned alive in a cage.

    3. Federal police dismantled an Islamic State group recruiting network in Canada, by arresting a Canadian with ties to ISIS for allegedly helping others join the jihadists.

    4. Two diplomats have stated that with time for negotiations running short, the U.S. and Iran are discussing a compromise that would let Iran keep much of its uranium-enriching technology but reduce its potential to make nuclear weapons.

    5. The joint chiefs of staff of Iran's armed forces have established a new 'soft war' headquarters to counter threats from Israel and the US, particularly in cyberspace.

You can read these stories in more detail and get more prophecy-related news at SecondComingHerald.com.

The prophetic passage of Scripture we are looking at today is Leviticus 23:26-28 which reads: "And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying, Also on the tenth day of this seventh month there shall be a day of atonement: it shall be an holy convocation unto you; and ye shall afflict your souls, and offer an offering made by fire unto the Lord. And ye shall do no work in that same day: for it is a day of atonement, to make an atonement for you before the Lord your God."

Our second coming quote for today is from Frederic Godet. He said, "The Lord's Supper is a link between the Lord's First Coming and His Second Coming."
