One of the worst things that happened was the complete and deliberate breaking-down of cultural patterns among the suppressed peoples. "Europe was staggered at the Leopoldian atrocities, and they were terrible indeed; but what we,who were behind the scene felt most keenly, was the fact that the real catastrophe in the congo was desolation and murder in the larger sense. The invasion of family life, the ruthless destruction of every social barrier, the shattering of every tribal law, the introduction of criminal practices which struck the chiefs of the people dumb with horror-- in a word, a varitable avalanche of filth and immorality overwhelmed the Congo tribe. Have you been to a workshop or conference lately and been asked what was your “preferred pronoun?” Conveners aren’t just being politically correct but acknowledging the diverse gender identities within our community. As more and more LGBTQ individuals come out and take their place at work, schools and in their communities, society is learning that the old rules simply just don’t apply anymore. Some even suggest a Gender neutrality - the idea that policies, language, and other social institutions should avoid distinguishing roles according to people's sex or gender, in order to avoid discrimination arising from the impression that there are social roles for which one gender is more suited than the other. Willy Wilkinson an award-winning Asian American transgender writer, public health consultant, cultural competency trainer, public speaker, and spoken word performer Willy Wilkinson. He is the author of the book Born on the Edge of Race and Gender: A Voice for Cultural Competency. We will talk about Wilkinson’s personal journey, explain cultural competency for those working in and with the LGBTQ community.
Direct Primary Care is growing and groaning. What drives it? What goes into the development of the DPC culture? Is there a culture of DPC? "A culture is a way of life of a group of people--the behaviors, beliefs, values, and symbols that they accept, generally without thinking about them, and that are passed along by communication and imitation from one generation to the next." one internet definition.
Models of DPC include "Pure", Mixed and Hybrid. I'll define Mixed during the show.
Who is doing it and how does it come together?
The DPC Summits help to anchor the movement. July 8-10 in Kansas City is the next national one.
Our Ohio UnSummit seeks to help with the development of the Ohio DPC culture. I'll discuss the UnSummit (Feb 20th in Dublin, OH) and shamelessly promote it during the show.
