[CD] World Cultural Diversity Day
The term “cultural diversity” expresses the variety of our cultural differences, showcasing each in its unique way, and highlights the strengths of cultural synergy in society. The term is also a driving force for development, not only in respect of economic growth, but also as a means of enjoying a more fulfilling personal experience, whether intellectually, emotionally, morally, or spiritually. Foundation for Cultural Diversity has been collaborating with various organizations to celebrate “Cultural Diversity Day” in various ways since UNESCO (United Nations Education, Scientific, and Culture Organization) proclaimed every May 21 the “World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development” at the Universal Declaration on Cultural Diversity back in November 2001.
In short then, “Diversity Day” provides us with an opportunity to deepen our worldly understanding of the principles that make us who we are. This year, on May 21, 2013, at 12 PM EST, Foundation for Cultural Diversity is teaming up with the United Nations Alliance of Civilization (UNAOC) in support of its ‘Do One thing for Diversity and Inclusion’ Campaign. We plan to bring together people from all cultural, social, religious, economic, and ethnic backgrounds to inspire our diverse communities to come together in a positive and inclusive spirit through the AV social media radio. We expect individuals from multicultural communities and representatives of ethnic based groups to come together from various part of the world and share experiences on diversity, discuss ideas of inclusion, highlight challenges for rapprochement, and celebrate our differences – on this forum.

Cultural Competency Needed Now
As in all fields of study, the field of diversity management continues to evolve, with "cultural competency" at its core. While diversity management was once thought of as simply being aware of differences of race and ethnicity, we now know that it is much more, with the term" cultural competency" covering a far broader span of areas such as gender and generational differences, and religious and cultural beliefs and customs, just to name a few. As our society becomes much more multi-cultural and our organizations progressively more global in scope, it becomes more and more apparent that this skill is vital for today's leaders Join us tonight as Lisa Pasbjerg, executive coach and CEO of Focused Coaching, LLC interviews William Appleton, President of Kairos Consulting. and a CDP (Certified Diversity Professional.) Marty Palinic- Cultural spells
The main topic of the show will be cultural spells and I will first provide a definition of what a cultural spell is. A cultural spell is any message that the culture sends out to its citizens, whether it be consciously or subliminally; a course of action to take about one's life or an impression where it's modeling the person where to go for power. We must first understand that we live in a patriarchy here in the United States where its citizenry aren't treated as equals and rather that they must fit an impression on how to live one's life whether you're a man or a woman. Our family conditioning is so strongly fused into this model that after childhood, one goes out into society and tries to claim or reclaim power through the workforce or relating to its fellow citizenry. Most of us don't realize that somewhere along the way, we have replicated our own impression as a man or woman and are largely unconscious about it. We receive messages on how to be a man or a woman from the patriarchy then try to develop a sense of esteem from these models. This esteem is mostly fused into the environment where the person is also forming their values around. Beneath the surface of our gender, title, or relationships, we're much more complex beings

[YI] Role of Young People in Africa's Cultural Revolution
Many people still don’t understand what Africa is about and they are deeply confused about our potential as a people and a continent. This week we focus on African: our art, our music, our literature, our sport, our fashion, and our stories. What positive and negative impact has globalization had on African heritage? What have we lost and what have we gained? What have we contributed as a young generation to the Cultural Revolution? How are we using today’s tools to tell people about our lives, our values and beliefs? What can Africa teach the world and how can we paint a more positive picture of the continent?
.. it is the story that owns us.
Once upon a time there was a great, humble and generous man who believed in many things, and who uttered those and many other frank and fearless words - his name was Chinua Achebe. In 1958, his first novel,Things Fall Apart, was published and its main character - the Nigerian farmer Okonkwo, who struggled to preserve his customs and culture despite pressure from British colonizers - was introduced to the world. Not only did this work challenge European narratives about Africans it also put to test long held notions about the shape and purpose of the novel. His other works such as the arrow of God (1964), Anthill of Savanah (1988), A man of the people (1966)also greatly introduced Nigerian culture to the world. On Thursday 21 March, we lost a giant; Prof Achebe was not only a person but a movement that defined African culture. He was one of our most prolific icons, a fearless defender of integrity, justice and democracy, and a true son of African literature who used his words to paint a truer picture of African culture and thus abolished many misconceptions about the continent and her people
