She runs the site, hires summer staff and interpretive guides, makes sure the location is in impeccable shape, and ensures that visitors thoroughly enjoy their experience. Cox is also involved in fundraising for the interpretive centre and is the centre’s project manager. Of all of her roles, she loves the ones that let her interact with people the most. “I really enjoy meeting new people … So that’s my favourite part – giving our tour and partnering with other organizations to highlight our African Nova Scotian history.”

Leadership: How to conduct your orchestra

    in Business

One of my mentors who was a great leader in my eyes, knew just how to inspire me. He told me he couldn’t motivate me that my motivation was within and it was his job to remove the obstacles between me and my motivation. This was very impactful for me and I use this as the basis in my coaching. In my mind Leadership is more like coaching. It is knowing how to inspire and bring out the best in others through recognizing their skills and abilities, enabling them and supporting them in removing the obstacles in their way.  Leadership is at the crux of productivity. That is self leadership as well as leadership of a team. Leaders do need to lead by example. When leadership fails, the team is less effective and efficient and can cost the organization significant sums in lost profits that result from direct and indirect costs.

Think of your team as a group of musicians. Each one plays beautifully on their own when playing the instrument of their choice. Look at the power that group of musicians has together as they become an orchestra. That is where magic is made as they play together seamlessly. Today we will look what a conductor has to teach about leadership.

    Our Guest: Hugh Ballou

Hugh Ballou teaches leaders around the globe how to build synergy with teams and how to build effective processes that bring success to any organization - no matter how big or how small. He brings a wealth of experience as a prominent conductor of musical ensembles to his innovative leadership approach.

He is author of multiple books on Transformational Leadership and works as executive coach, process facilitator, and strategist. As a powerful motivational speaker, he teaches the fine art of leadership employed every day by musical conductors.

PMP: Bone Poets Orchestra with Christopher Bingham & Sue Tinney

    in Spirituality

Christopher Bingham and Sue Tinney of Bone Poets Orchestra join RevKess and KaliSara for a conversation about their musical career with Bone Poets Orchestra, formerly Gaia Consort. RevKess has been anticipating this interview for a long time and hopes that the listeners have as well. Belladonna Smiles launched the new band name, since then BPO has rereleased Vitus Dance and two original albums, Atheist Anthems and Ecstasy in the Ruins.

From the bio page on the Bone Poets website: After two acoustic solo albums, Bingham and his wife, Sue Tinney, started the seminal Pagan band, Gaia Consort in 1997. Pagans loved it, but after four critically acclaimed records, it was time to expand the audience. So - a new name.

Bone Poets Orchestra explores wildly different textures through Bingham’s "no stylistic borders" policy - all enhanced by 40 years of immersion in just about every musical style.

Tune in and find out what has been going on with BPO and what they have planned for the near future. This episode will showcase music from both BPO and the previous incarnation of the band Gaia Consort.

National Crime Victim's Rights Week & Sexual Assault Awareness

    in Radio

This week U.S. observes National Crime Victims’ Rights week—promoting victims’ rights and honoring crime victims and those who advocate on their behalf. Millions of Americans each year are victimized by crime—acts of terrorism, violent crime, human trafficking, hate crimes, financial fraud, child abuse, cyber crime, kidnapping, bank robbery...the list goes on. And the FBI’s Office for Victim Assistance (OVA) is responsible for ensuring that victims of crimes investigated by the Bureau are afforded the opportunity to receive the services and notifications they are entitled to and the assistance they need to cope. http://www.fbi.gov/news/news_blog/2015-national-crime-victims-rights-week

Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM) campaign

The OVA manages the day-to-day operational aspects of our victim assistance program in each of our 56 field offices, where our victim specialists work with those who have suffered physical, emotional, and/or financial harm as a result of a federal crime. In addition, OVA is also responsible for providing training and information that equips FBI agents and other Bureau personnel to work effectively with victims

Sexual violence including child sexual abuse crosses all ages, genders, races, ethnicities, and economic backgrounds. According to the Child Maltreatment 2013 report from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' Children's Bureau,  60,956 cases of child sexual abuse were reported in the US 2013—9.0 percent of the total number of reported maltreatment cases that year.
