Restine Jackson ~ Singer, Songwriter, Producer and Composer

    in Radio

Few Gospel artists are blessed to be dubbed a “quadruple threat”.  But then again, few artists have the talents of Restine Jackson.  A singer, songwriter, producer and composer, Jackson has been doused with amazing musical gifts.  But to box this blessed young man in with just four gifts gives a partial picture of this exceptional individual. The Washington, DC area-based psalmist is also known as a dynamic speaker, teacher, worship leader and motivational speaker.  As the head of Restine Jackson & Grace, he’s appeared in concert with top names including Mary Mary, Yolanda Adams, Vickie Winans, Ricky Dillard & New G, Deitrick Haddon & The Voices of Unity and many others.  Many were introduced to this musical sensation on television shows like BET’s Teen Summit and Bobby Jones Gospel. Many remember the artist from his national hit, “I Command My Soul To Bless The Lord." His current single is the memorable, laid-back track, “Nobody”.  The single is from his forthcoming CD, I’m Free, his fourth musical effort.  Popular Gospel Radio Announcers have hailed the new single with Liz Black calling it “refreshing” and Lee Michaels saying “‘NOBODY’ will be able to ignore this wonderful message”.  Cheryl Jackson says, “I absolutely love it” and Lady Shaunte’ proclaims the track flaunts a “fresh sound with great lyrics”. He attended Morgan State University in Baltimore where he graduated with a Bachelors of Arts Degree in Music Performance in Classical Piano and later a Masters of Arts Degree in Music Performance.

Hybrid Jazz From Trish Hennessey - with Pianist/Composer Romain Collin!

    in Music

When we last spoke to the inside/out beautiful Romain Collin, he was immersed in another project. That's the correct term: immersed.  When listening to the way he offers music, there is the distinct feeling that Romain had nothing else on his mind but living the chords he was playing.  You can almost see him: eyes closed, smiling at memories - or hope from an anticipated time, savoring the life captured in five minutes worth of piano resuscitation.

Our guest just celebrated his birthday.  He's young - not yet 40 - but Romain has lived much longer than that.  The echoes of other times linger in his songs.  Beautifully scary.  Right on time for Halloween :)  We'll have to ask if that event is celebrated in France, the country of his birth.  What the French celebrate for SURE: education.  And a beloved transplant knows all about that.  At Berklee first (scholarship), he was then accepted at the Monk Institute (another scholarship!).  During that time, he was fortunate to be able to tour with two key legends who oversee admissions into the school: Herbie Hancock and Wayne Shorter.  He also studied with Ron Carter, Charlie Haden and Mulgrew Miller.

2008 saw his debut "stick" with Jazz critics.  "The Rise and Fall of Pipokuhn" created a reverberation throughout the community - and Romain was invited to join the esteemed Marian McPartland on her popular "Jazz Piano" radio show.  In 2012, this "visionary" (NPR) joined us on the show to tell us about "The Calling" - which resulted in more praise from those who don't tend to do so.  Orchestral film scoring - and playing with Christian McBride and Lauryn Hill (among others) - kept him busy every single day.  But his eye was on a third album - and here it is.  Join us for a discussion of "Press Enter!" 10/29 :)

U.S. troops to remain in Afghanistan; Cuban troops in Syria

    in Current Events

    1. President Barack Obama will keep 5,500 U.S. troops in Afghanistan when he leaves office in 2017, casting aside his promise to end the war on his watch and instead ensuring he hands the conflict off to his successor.

    2. Cuban military operatives have reportedly been spotted in Syria, where sources believe they are advising President Bashar Assad’s soldiers and may be preparing to man Russian-made tanks to aid Damascus in fighting rebel forces.

    3. The top U.S. military officer will visit Israel next week, as the two nations prepare to resume talks on defence aid that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had suspended in protest of the Iran nuclear deal.

    4. After a meeting with Iran’s defense minister in Tehran, a senior Chinese admiral said China wants to deepen military ties with the Islamic Republic.

    5. Several Arab Gulf states are engaged in negotiations to purchase the Israeli-developed Iron Dome missile defense system in an attempt to ward off possible threats from Iran’s “growing arsenal of missiles.”

You can read these stories in more detail and get more prophecy-related news at SecondComingHerald.com.

The prophetic passage of Scripture that we are looking at today is Psalm 78:2 which reads: "I will open my mouth in a parable: I will utter dark sayings of old."

Our second coming quote for today is from G Campbell Morgan. He said, "To me the second coming is the perpetual light on the path which makes the present bearable. I never lay my head on the pillow without thinking that perhaps before the morning breaks, the final morning may have dawned. I never begin my work without thinking that He may interrupt my work and begin His own. This is now His word to all believing souls, 'Till I come.' We are not looking for death, we are looking for Him."

Up Close & Personal with c- jazz artist, pianist and composer "Cecil Ramirez"

    in Music

    Cecil Ramirez

    Party In The Back

Party In The Back is Cecil's homage to the R&B grooves that he grew up with, listened to and played as part of an R&B band on tour in the 80's. The album is a collection of 7 hook-laden original tunes and 3 covers of Cecil's favorite songs. Cecil invited some of his buddies to play on Party In The Back and the album features amazing guest performances by sax men Michael Lington, Darren Rahn, & Phil Denny; guitarist Adam Hawley; and pianist/producer Brian Culbertson playing synth solos on the new single "Remember The Time".

About Party In The Back, Cecil says, "I wanted to create an album that showed where my music is today, but still reflected where I came from. Playing casino gigs in the 80's with a 7-piece group was a unique experience; I have great memories of the music and musicians I met during that time. Hopefully, the album will take listeners on a fun trip back to where they were in the 80's."

Mr. Robert Slap ~ Composer, Multi-instrumentalist, Engineer & Producer

    in Radio

Composer, multi-instrumentalist, engineer and producer, Robert Slap is a native of Detroit, Michigan. His music spans a wide spectrum of styles that include blues, rock, new age, jazz and film music. Born August 24, 1951, Slap grew up in the working class communities of Hamtramck and Roseville, learning to play trumpet at the age of 10. He played in his school concert and marching bands, and also performed with several drum and bugle corps. The classical training he received would benefit him later in life when pursuing a career as a music composer. By age 12, Robert’s interests were dominated by playing guitar (self taught) and tinkering with electronic equipment, radios, speakers, etc. Little did he know that these “hobbies” would determine the course of his life. His philosophy is, "Music is made to generate emotional response; life is a tapestry of ever-changing moods, colors, textures, and emotion. It reflects life and touches our souls' strings, pulling feelings out with passion into the open. It is the only medium through which I can truly express my innermost feelings."
