"Today is Ernie birthday and the 150th anniversary of Congress’s passage of the 13th Amendment, which abolished slavery. Smiling faces can sometimes conceal what’s deep within,” Ernie Banks’s cheerfulness as a thermostat that “helped control the temperature” of his times, disarmed adversaries with optimism” and “branded good will.” Rev Jesse Jackson

One of the most versatile writers working today, Ron Franscell has traversed the open range of journalism, fiction and nonfiction with extraordinary success. His lyrical but muscular prose has been compared to that of Robert Olen Butler, Cormac McCarthy, and Charles Frazier. His journalism has won several national awards, including the Associated Press Managing Editors’ national Freedom of Information Award, the Investigative Reporters and Editor’s Best in the West Award, and four Pulitzer Prize candidates. And he has frequently appeared as a true-crime commentator on CNN, NPR, Fox News, and crime documentaries on Investigation Discovery, History Channel, and A&E.
Media is an entity that has deteriorated and not progressed over time. Time was media would report events, while events were current. Today's media for the most part do little more than talk. Talk based on misrepresentations, lies, slurs and hatred. Station owners and sponsors allow these tactics. Viewers, listeners, readers and consumers are the target and many come to media not all for the same reason. Time for America's FCC to label media based on content of information being dissimulated to the public. US media seek to influence those who partake, not inform. Media holds on to data and decides importance based on where they are seated on a given day. Media found no reason to pay tribute to America's Black History Month. A discussion about why Blacks celebrate Black History Month has to come to America. Media are our reporters. Media fails to report. I salute Jon Stewart in his successful media run. He understands the need for truth of the matter news daily to people. Stewart will be sorely missed
Today we welcome Aaron Krause to Autism and Scouting Radio. Aaron is a new Eagle Scout, recent high school graduate and college student who regularly advocates for himself and for others on the autism spectrum. His Eagle Project was a video called "All Are Welcome" which was produced to help others know that all abilities are welcome in the Greater Milwaukee Synod of the ELCA. This video was shown at the Urban Autism Summit and during the opening for the International Summit on Disability Employment held in Honolulu, Hawaii in 2014.
We will be talking about Aaron's journey within scouting. Aaron started as a Tiger Cub Scout and continued for many years in the program, earning his Arrow of Light and later transitioning into Boy Scouts. We will also be asking Aaron abut his self-advocacy work. Aaron is a big believer in promoting autism acceptance and empowerment. He has testified at the Wisconsin state Capitol on a variety of autism-related issues including insurance reform, scholarships and school vouchers. He has also been interviewed on radio and TV. One of Aaron's life goals is to continue learning about autism and to spread Autism Acceptance wherever he goes.

The decision by the NBC television network to suspend superstar news anchor Brian Williams for six months without pay has prompted a closer look at the US network news culture, and the very future of the TV news business.
Today, Betsy West teaches journalism at the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism in New York. It’s a gentle and prestigious place for aspiring young reporters. But after 30 years as a top-level producer, reporter and documentarian for ABC, CBS and PBS, this 21 time Emmy award winner is intimately familiar with the rough and tumble stratosphere of an industry whose most trusted public face until last week may have been Brian Williams.
West was a CBS senior vice president in 2005 when iconic news anchor Dan Rather was forced out for getting a story wrong. She says those past controversies differ in one significant way with the digital age outcry over Brian Williams’ public “misremembering.”

Today she raises money to address the issues abandonment of animals, kill shelters and the overpopulation problem, through her online boutique of cool dog 'stuff.
