Special Guest - Kywuan Terrell Warren
Successful Celebrity Clothing Designer
Kywuan Terrell Warren
The Son of Incarcerated Mother Starts Successful Clothing Line
Kywuan Terrell Warren was just 11 years old when his mother, Jamila T. Davis, was sentenced to 12 1/2 years in prison for bank fraud. In her absence, Kywuan and his sister, Diamond Baker, struggled to sustain the lifestyle that their single mother once provided. Kywuan says, "When the judge sentenced my mother to over a decade behind bars, I thought my life was over. I don't think he realized by punishing her so harshly, he was actually punishing me!”
Kywuan was accepted to a major university but was unable to afford the tuition. He discussed his dilemma while visiting his mother in federal prison. Together they decided to create outerwear apparel for men as a business. Kywuan brought the design ideas to his mother, then she would go back to her cell, and hand-crocheted each sample. The mother and son creative duo went back and forth until the entire line was complete. The line, The Kywuan Terrell Outerwear Collection, includes trendy, hooded scarves and arm warmers. "It took some time, but we were dedicated. I was able to find some of the greatest hands-craftsmen in the world to manufacture our garments. Each piece is crocheted by hand using 100% high-quality, alpaca thread. Kywuan says, “Each garment in the collection is custom made with love and care, just like the originals that my mother made for me!"
There are over 2 million children across the US whose parents are behind bars. Kywuan is one of the lucky ones. He is currently an honor roll student at a local community college. Armed with a supportive team and determination, the Kywuan Terrell Outerwear Collection is created and highly sought-out by fashion icon

So what’s in a name? Naturally there’s a strategy in choosing the perfect name to represent your brand. When you understand the back story of Fukitt Clothing, you’ll realize they have the perfect name for their products which include t-shirts, sweatshirts, trucker hats, snapbacks, beanies, hoodies, stickers, pants, and board shorts. Fukitt Clothing has a distinct edgy image, and you won’t find it available in your local mall. Watch this short video to get additional insight on their philosophy. The company mission is “to inspire and motivate people to live life without regret and accept challenges worth the risk,” and inspirational messages such as Love Life, Take Nothing for Granted, and Stop Worrying and Start Living are front and center on their clothing. What does it all mean? Fukitt CEO and Founder, Ricardo Zulueta Jr, will share his story including the origin of their unusual name. Since their mission is to inspire and motivate people to live life and take risks, it is appropriate to support Suicide Prevention Awareness. Ricardo, the founder of Fukitt, has experienced the loss of his oldest brother from suicide, which is why he is passionate in his mission. Fukitt’s goal is not only to prevent suicide, but to influence and change people's mentality and perspective about life that often lead to depression, anxiety and other mental issues that prevent them from achieving the ultimate goal -- to be happy. The clothing provides positive reinforcement and a reminder. After the interview, check After Hours at Jersey Coastal Live for more info. This interview is rated R for language but not for content.

Thayer is the son of an eastern Washington farmer and his wife, and is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Washington State University and of the University of Chicago Law School.
