Miguel Cotto vs. Saul Canelo Alvarez Fight Preview

    in Sports

With the highly anticipated showdown between lineal middleweight champion Miguel Cotto and Mexican cash cow Saul “Canelo” Alvarez only four days out, the WBC announced that it “no longer recognizes” Miguel Cotto as the WBC champion in the middleweight division. The news is extremely surprising for so many reasons, but none more incredible than the timing of the announcement.

Cotto and Canelo will meet this Saturday on HBO PPV in front of a stellar crowd in Las Vegas. The Puerto Rico-Mexico rivalry is as heightened as ever and nothing can get in its way or hinder the anticipation.

"I have a lot of respect for Miguel," said Canelo Álvarez following the fight. "He is a great champion and a great fighter. We knew going into this fight that it would be a difficult journey, but I feel that I was the faster and stronger fighter tonight. I wasn't hurt by his punches. Canelo vs Miguel Cotto Recap, Klitschko vs Tyson Fury Preview

    in Sports

Rumors have swirled about how many Pay-Per-View buys Saul "Canelo" Alvarez's win over Miguel Cotto pulled in, and so far the news is quite good, if not surprising. It was a solid kinda-middleweight fight, but perhaps not the clash many had hoped for.

The fight that stole all the attention was Francisco Vargas' war with Takashi Miura. In danger of being stopped by a damaged eye, Vargas rallied to end Miura's night in the 9th round. It was an instant "Fight of the Year" contender.

As some may have expected, Guillermo Rigondeaux didn't entertain much on the card.

But this coming weekend we get to see two huge fighters compete for the heavyweight title on in Wladimir Klitschko and Tyson Fury, on HBO. This could be a case of who you think will win and who you want to win being two different things.

Also on the menu, James DeGale fights a comebacking Lucian Bute on Showtime in Quebec City.

All these things and more will be covered by James Foley of Bad Left Hook and The Fight City's Patrick Connor. And probably with too many jokes thrown in.

Miguel Cotto vs. Canelo Alvarez - Radio commentary with Joseph Herron

    in Sports

Saturday, November 21st, at 11:00PM ET/8:00PM PT, "War a Week" Radio presents "Miguel Cotto vs. Canelo Alvarez" live from the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, Nevada!!  Kicking off this evening's broadcast, fight scribe and ring announcer Joseph Herron will describe the action as it happens in the HBO PPV co-main event and main event of the evening!!

Presented by HBO PPV, at the retail price of $60 in SD and $70 in HD, lineal Middleweight Champion Miguel Cotto (40-4, 33 KOs) will defend his coveted distinction against slight betting favorite Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez (45-1-1, 32 KOs) in tonight's main event of the evening!!

Under the tutelage of Hall of Fame trainer Freddie Roach, the Caguas, Puerto Rico resident will attempt to put together his fourth consecutive victory against arguably his toughest test since dropping a decision to Floyd Mayweather in May of 2012.  Will Canelo finally be able to proclaim Mexican elite level status by defeating the future Hall of Fame fighter, or will Alvarez once again come up short on the biggest stage of boxing?

In the co-main event of the evening, Golden Boy hopeful Francisco Vargas (22-0-1, 16 KOs) will attempt to become the new WBC Super Featherweight Champion as he challenges incumbent title holder Takashi Muira (29-2-2, 22 KOs).  In this brilliant clash of styles, expect both fighters to fight in a phone booth and exchange hard leather as long or as short as this scheduled 12 round contest lasts!!
