The Great Hunger - The Feast of Corpus Christi

    in Christianity

Brief Audio Reflection "The Great Hunger"  (John 6:51-58): The Feast of Corpus Christi , Year A

To be human is to live with hunger. While it may not be gnawing at you right now, give it a little time. Miss a few meals. Soon it will become the focus of every thought and action. Miss a few more meals and it will become real easy to forget that appetites are a gift from God. They enable our survival as individuals and as a species. They are reflections of “the great hunger”… our fear of mortality, our yearning for life’s meaning, our longing to fill the vast hole in our souls.

The great good news of this week’s gospel is that Jesus invites us to come to the table. God’s bounty is laid out for us 24/7. He wants us to feast on faith… to find meaning in life, to transcend mortality and find eternal happiness with him. In this gospel we are invited to do much more than encounter Christ. We are called to complete communion with the living God. We are called to: Eat my flesh and drink my blood. This side of heaven, you can’t get closer than that.

In faith if we truly share the Bread of Life and the Cup of Salvation, how could we ever go away hungry? We are literally one with Christ and one with millions of Christians who come to his altar this Sunday. There is one bread and we are all one body. We share one cup. We are Corpus Christi… the Body of Christ… nourished by him, living in him and he in us. We have purpose and direction… his purpose, his direction...

Corpus Christi - Body and Blood of Jesus

    in Christianity

In this reairing, blogger Sacerdotus speaks on the Solemnity of the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ or "Corpus Christi."  He explains the significance of this great feast day of the Church which commemorates the Holy Eucharist.

Catholics believe that the Holy Eucharist is truly the Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Jesus Christ. Sacerdotus explains how this is possible by using Sacred Scripture, Tradition, Science and Philosophy.  He explains why bread and wine were used as the matter for the Sacrament and why it makes sense to use it.

Many Protestants believe the Holy Eucharist is merely a symbol.  Sacerdotus explains why Christ was serious when He introduced this great Sacrament to humanity. He never intended this Sacrament to be a mere symbol, but His True Presence on Earth under the appearance of Bread and Wine.

The Solemnity was celebrated on Thursday June 19, 2014, but many dioceses around the world celebrate it on Sunday, June 22 in order to have more people participate in the celebration.

Deepertruth: The Eucharistic Miracle of Augsburg Germany 1194-1199

    in Religion

The Eucharistic miracle of Augsburg, is known locally as Wunderbarlichen Gutes –“The Miraculous Good”. It is described in numerous books and historical documents that can be consulted in the civic state library of Augsburg. A stolen Host was transformed into bleeding Flesh. In the course of the centuries, several analyses were completed of the Holy Particle that have always confirmed that human Flesh and Blood are present. Today the Convent of the Heileg Kreuz (Holy Cross) is taken care of by the Dominican Fathers.

1194, a woman from Augsburg who was particularly devoted to the Most Holy Sacrament, received Holy communion. After communion, without being noticed, she put the Host in a handkerchief, took the Blessed Sacrament home and placed the Eucharistic Species in a container of wax inside a cupboard. In those days it was very difficult to find tabernacles in the church so as to be able to practice Eucharistic Worship. Only in 1264, with the introduction of the Feast of Corpus Domini (Corpus Christi) did such devotion become commonplace.

Five years passed and on the 11th of May 1199, the woman, tormented by remorse, confessed to the superior of the convent of the Heilig Kreuz, Father Berthold, who had her bring the Host back. The priest opened up the wax covering that enclosed the Host and saw that the Holy Eucharist had been transformed into bleeding Flesh. The Host appeared “divided into two Parts connected together by the thin threads of the bleeding Flesh.” Father Berthold went immediately to the bishop of the city of Udalskalk who ordered that the Miraculous Host be “transferred, accompanied by the clergy and by the people into the cathedral and exhibited in an ostensorium of crystal for public worship.”

Eyes Wide Open: Democratic Blog Talk

    in Politics

You may have heard U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders, who is running for the Democratic Party's presidential nomination, last week hired Jacob Limon to serve as his Texas state campaign director.
Jacob will join Michael Handley and Rheana Piegols on "Eyes Wide Open" as our special guest this coming Tuesday evening, November 10th, at 8:30 PM cst.
Jacob will manage the Sanders campaign's operation to organize Sanders' Texas supporters, who have already started informally organizing themselves. Over the next week, campaign staffers will begin listening stops in Dallas, Houston, Corpus Christi, Austin, San Antonio, Brownsville and Fort Worth, as the campaign begins to dispatch staff to Texas to meet with supporters. The campaign is also expected to open a number of offices in the state over the coming weeks.
Sanders made a campaign swing through Texas in July, drawing 5,200 and 8,000 people to rallies in Houston and Dallas, respectively. Sanders urged Democrats not to write off Texas in his strategy to win the White House and take back control of congress.
Jacob Limon has most recently been chief of staff to state Rep. Nicole Collier of Fort Worth, and previously served as the deputy executive director for the Texas Democratic Party. We look forward to having him join us for "Eyes Wide Open" on BlogTalk USA this Tuesday night, November 10th at 8:30PM cst/9:30 est!
