    in Environment

Michael W. Beck, Lead Scientist, Global Marine Team, The Nature Conservancy

Mike Beck works on the interface between marine science and policy on marine spatial planning, habitat restoration, and coral reef conservation in temperate and tropical regions. His work increasingly focuses on developing decision support approaches to build coastal resilience and on the links between disaster risk reduction, climate adaptation, and environmental restoration. I am fascinated on a daily basis on any news concerning the state of our planet’s ocean, their inhabitants and their survival. Mike’s scope of knowledge also includes the continued work on the nursery role of near-shore habitats such as kelp forests and on marine conservation agreements on a global scale. Let the questions begin. This show made possible through the generous support of Habitat for Humanity Tucson.

Episode 300: USS Neosho (AO-23),USS Sims (DD-409) & the Battle of the Coral Sea

    in Military

Wars are full of accidental battles, unexpected horror, and the valor of ordinary people in extraordinary circumstances.

Often lost in the sweeping stories of the Pacific in WWII, there is a story that - if not for one man's inability to properly recognize one ship from another - should have never have happened. Because of that one man's mistake, and a leader's stubborn enthusiasm to double down on that mistake, the lived of hundreds of men were lost - and possibly the course of a pivotal early battle changed.

Our guest for the full hour will be author Don Keith to discuss the tale of the USS Neosho (AO-23) and USS Sims (DD-409) at the Battle of the Coral Sea in his latest book, The Ship That Wouldn't Die: The Saga of the USS Neosho- A World War II Story of Courage and Survival at Sea.

Don is an award-winning and best-selling author of books on a wide range of topics. In addition to being a prolific writer, he also has a background in broadcast journalism from on-the-air personality to ownership.

Magical Martinique: The Island of Flowers

    in Travel

Imagine paradise where your senses explode with a banquet of color, or scents and flavors exicte, or where you experience exotic tranquility.  That is Martinique.

We enjoyed some planteur punch as we sat on a lovely Martinique beach with Muriel Wiltord from La Martinique Tourism who explained more about the island, it's unique culture and history and why Martinique is unique from other Caribbean islands.

During our visit to the island we were treated to some wonderful accommodations including Hotel Bakoua--the very first tourist hotel on Martinique.  Hotel Bakoua is a former family home that was built in a colonial architectural style.

We also visited the luxurious  Cap-est Lagoon Resort and Spa on the east coast of Martinique.  The tropical oasis is tucked away on a garden on the edge of a lagoon that overlooks a coral reef in the Atlantic Ocean.

One of Martinique's more powerful attractions is the Anse Cafard Slave Memorial.  This memorial was completed in 1998 to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the emanicipation of slaves in the French West Indies.  The memorial is comprised of 20 eight-foot tall looming statues bearing brooding expressions of loss and mourning.

The historic Habitation Clément tells the story of Martinique's creoles, its agricultural and industrial heritage.  Rhum Agricole was born at Habitation Clément and that it boasts the culture of an ancient Créole sugarcane plantation with rich French West Indian history.

Investigating Champion Realtors Real Estate Agency and Rohan Moore

    in Radio

Investigating Champion Realtors Real Estate Agency and Rohan Moore for fraudulent activities.  Rohan Moore, pastor of 3 Coral Drive, Haggatt Hall, St Michael has been swiping other realtors of their clients with promises that he will take care of their properties and control clients so owners have nothing to do but collect rent. Little did they know that he pockets 60% of the earnings by taking people to see properties, they pay him and his receipt says that he will forfeit 60% of the deposit if the client changes his or her mind.  The fraudster, who lived in Bermuda and was on the force there, and his mistress Kathy Anne Hazzard have been posing as client and tenant to unsuspecting owners and when Hazzard changed her mind, the two pocketed the 60% leaving the tenant-to-be ripped off and owners trying to figure out how he could claim that the place is to be rented and suddenly is unavailable. Maybe they can ask Cheryl Moore at cherylmoore8@yahoo.com, the VP of more than Operations.
