    Ethics of the Aquarium Trade

    in Environment

Join Ray Owczarzak in welcoming an old friend Doug Ludemann.  Doug and I worked together a long time ago in a galaxy far far away.  (Sorry for the reference). Doug has years of experience in the public and private aquarium fields and currently owns and operates Fish Geeks.

I’ve wanted to do a show on the ethical issues involved in the aquarium hobby and field for some time.  When I first began my pet trade career at the age of 16 at a small mom and pop shop in Illinois, I was wide eyed and ignorant to the dark side of the trade.  I sold snake head after snake head destined for home tanks without any thought about the possible impacts.  Now that I live in Maryland, where the snake head makes advances year after year in waterways, I wonder about my past actions.

What other dark secrets are there in the aquarium hobby?  I think, in retrospect, that any financial endeavor that requires the sale of live animals inherently has a few dark secrets.  In fact, they are too numerous to mention in an hour show, but we will give it a shot.

Don’t get me wrong, I believe that the industry and hobby have many ethical companies and the preponderance of hobbyists are top notch.  But as the saying goes, a few bad apples…  Hopefully the discussion will provide some food for thought on the businesses that listeners use.  Making ethical choices are up to the end consumer.  We as a people have the best chance at guiding the future.  So don’t just sit back be a Witness, but make a change for the better.  As always, I hope that people join in the conversation and call in with thoughts and stories.

    Coral Reef Conservation

    in Environment

Michael W. Beck, Lead Scientist, Global Marine Team, The Nature Conservancy

Mike Beck works on the interface between marine science and policy on marine spatial planning, habitat restoration, and coral reef conservation in temperate and tropical regions. His work increasingly focuses on developing decision support approaches to build coastal resilience and on the links between disaster risk reduction, climate adaptation, and environmental restoration. I am fascinated on a daily basis on any news concerning the state of our planet’s ocean, their inhabitants and their survival. Mike’s scope of knowledge also includes the continued work on the nursery role of near-shore habitats such as kelp forests and on marine conservation agreements on a global scale. Let the questions begin. This show made possible through the generous support of Habitat for Humanity Tucson.

ALS Crowd Radio: Dr. Paul Cox, PhD, Environmental Causes of ALS

    in Health

S2:E3 Dr. Paul Alan Cox, Ph.D., Director of the Institute for Ethnomedicine, will speak about his research in finding and fighting the environmental causes of ALS.  Dietary exposure to an environmental toxin called BMAA may trigger ALS related symptoms.   Large doses of the dietary amino acid called L-serine may reduce the risk of BMAA exposure.  Dr. Cox published his most recent findings in the Proceedings of the British Royal Society published on Jan 20, 2016.

A Harvard Ph.D., Paul Alan Cox has spent his career searching for new medicines by studying patterns of wellness and disease among indigenous peoples. For these efforts, TIME magazine named Cox one of 11 “Heroes of Medicine.” His work with indigenous peoples in preserving their island rain forests won him the Goldman Environmental Prize. Cox has published over 200 scientific papers and four books.

He has held academic appointments at the University of California, Berkeley, Brigham Young University, the University of Melbourne, Uppsala University, the Swedish Agricultural University, and the University of Illinois, Chicago, and served as Director of the Congressionally-chartered National Tropical Botanical Gardens in Hawaii and Florida.

Cox founded Seacology, the world’s premier environmental non-profit organization for island conservation, headquartered in Berkeley, California. Through partnerships with indigenous people, Seacology has now saved over 1.3 million acres of island rainforests and coral reefs in 56 nations. Throughout Polynesia, he is known by the chiefly title Nafanua.

Cox currently serves as the Executive Director of the Institute for Ethnomedicine in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. His research there is focused on finding and fighting the causes of neurodegenerative disease including ALS and Alzheimer’s disease.

    Global Pyramid Network Group Discussion

    in Spirituality

Patrick Giles, and Breanna Houk joins our Pyramid Group Network for discussion on Pyramids, Coral Catle, Egypt, and research of past lives and spiritual science. Theresa J Morris is writing a book called Pyramid Research and learning the various layers of research. First is the literaray review. The various levels of research and how to apply what TJ enjoys which is Spirual Science with the Metaphysical Reviews that many share an opinion on. Do scientifc facts mean as much as one's own personal experiences? We share our lives as what we call person to person.

There are many people we meet who do not share the empirical academic reviews in books as facts any longer. We will discuss that now that people are showing up in an open forum called Blog Talk. We are forming the Cosmos Radio Org of people who want a voice in the grass roots community. We bring on authors in TJ's AscensionCenter. We have the ACE Metaphysical Institute,ERA COP Researchers share topics. Researchers tend to want people interested in what they are researching and writing books about .TJ  has learned to allow people to share their own points of views as an interactive form of communication while recording their thoughts in our ACE Folklife Professional Society. People are to "live and let live."  Now, we discuss "We are the Author's of our own Life Story." Many people have no time to go to conferences unless they are turly interested in a subject they are researching. Some want the community recognition of their own peers. TJ is a lover of light and is an author and a metaphysician. She is interested in meeting other people who want to share in truth and trust building. We share love and light. If you want to be in our various groups as an author or researcher or even a speaker please let TJ or her friends in the Cosmos Radio Organization know. ,
