Hard Starboard Radio: Barack Palpatine, Hillary Nixon & Scott Coolidge

    in Politics Conservative

Republican Senator Tom Cotton hasn’t been frog-marched from the Russell Senate Office Building — yet; Democrats: Palpatine was right to dissolve the Imperial Senate; Hillary Clinton is already reminding us of the notorious Clintonoid chicanery of the 1990s; Other Democrats could do just as well, with far fewer negatives and less drama, and that's only now dawning on them; Absent Hillary, Democrats’ 2016 field is an extraordinarily stronger - though not strong enough, depending upon whom the GOP nominates; Jeb Bush is the only Republican candidate who would make the Clinton name an asset for Hillary, not a liability, if, you know, she had a prayer at the Donk nomination; and could Scott Walker be the next Calvin Coolidge?

The Calvin Coolidge We Didn't Know

    in US Government

What do you know about President Coolidge? And why should you care? Tune in today to hear about one of America’s most underrated presidents with Biographer Amity Shlaes.
Have you had your healthy dose of reality lately? There are always at least two sides to every story. Have you ever wondered how someone, who saw the same thing you did, walked away telling a vastly different story? Which version was correct? Which one was the REAL story? Actually, both are! It’s just a matter of perspective. Joe takes the issues… especially the controversial issues (politics, prejudice, religion, illegal immigration)… and brings in people from different sides to share their viewpoint. This is definitely not a fluff piece. And while no one is attacked, the questions are hard-hitting. But the conversation is always respectful and you’re sure to learn something new, even if you don’t agree! If you’ve always wondered how the “other side” thinks and how they’ve arrived at their “stand”, then this is the show for you!
It’s not the right side, it’s not the wrong side, but the REAL side of the issues!

June 21, 2015 CECISFM want to say thank you our Father the Late Bobbie Bowens Sr. and John Welchel of American Cast Iron Pipe (retired)   and the Father's who support us each day Enjoy !!!

What some might not know is that the celebration has a religious history born out of tragedy

Grace Golden Clayton, a resident of Fairmont, West Virginia, was the first person on record to petition for Father’s Day. In December 1907, a mine explosion in a nearby town killed more than 360 men, many of them fathers. The tragedy left 1,000 children fatherless, which troubled Clayton.

Father’s Day has become a day of gift-giving and relaxation for many, but that is far from the original intention behind the day,

" Father’s Day is to acknowledge the importance of close bonds, loving relationships and unconditional love that endures all the joys and pains, ups and downs of human relationships,"

President Calvin Coolidge supported the idea of a national holiday in 1924, but it wasn’t until 1972, when President Richard Nixon made it a federal holiday, that it became permanent.

Live Chat: Father's Day celebrate the nation wide but How are they stocking UP!

    in Music

The campaign to celebrate the nation’s fathers did not meet with the same enthusiasm–perhaps because, as one florist explained, “fathers haven’t the same sentimental appeal that mothers have.” On July 5, 1908, a West Virginia church sponsored the nation’s first event explicitly in honor of fathers, a Sunday sermon in memory of the 362 men who had died in the previous December’s explosions at the Fairmont Coal Company mines in Monongah, but it was a one-time commemoration and not an annual holiday. The next year, a Spokane,Washington woman named Sonora Smart Dodd, one of six children raised by a widower, tried to establish an official equivalent to Mother’s Day for male parents. She went to local churches, the YMCA, shopkeepers and government officials to drum up support for her idea, and she was successful: Washington State celebrated the nation’s first statewide Father’s Day on July 19, 1910. Slowly, the holiday spread. In 1916, President Wilson honored the day by using telegraph signals to unfurl a flag in Spokane when he pressed a button in Washington, D.C.In 1924, President Calvin Coolidge urged state governments to observe Father’s Day. However, many men continued to disdain the day. As

The Mother of Father's Day, Sonora Dodd

    in Entertainment

Rez and Andy welcome Jerry Numbers to the show, a leader who is instrumental in carrying on the legacy of Sonora Smart Dodd, founder of Father's Day.

In 1909 when Sonora heard a Mother’s Day sermon at Central United Methodist Church in Spokane, she was inspired to propose that Father’s receive equal recognition. The following year with the assistance of Reverend Dr. Conrad Bluhm, her pastor at Old Centenary Presbyterian Church (now Knox Presbyterian Church), Sonora took the idea to the Spokane YMCA. The Spokane YMCA, along with the Ministerial Alliance, endorsed Dodd’s idea and helped it spread by celebrating the first Father’s Day in 1910. Sonora suggested her father’s birthday, June 5th, be established as the day to honor all Father’s. However, the pastors wanted more time to prepare, so June 19, 1910 was designated as the first Father’s Day and sermons honoring Father’s were presented throughout the city. It was years, however, before Father’s Day gained national prominence. In 1924 President Calvin Coolidge recognized Father’s Day and urged the states to do likewise. In 1966, President Lyndon B. Johnson signed a proclamation calling for the third Sunday in June to be recognized as Father’s Day and requested that flags to be flown that day on all government buildings. President Richard M. Nixon signed a proclamation in 1972, permanently observing Father’s Day on the third Sunday in June.

Today Father’s Day is celebrated from Antigua to Zimbabwe in over 50 countries around the world.

Jerry Numbers owns Sonora's former home which is on the National Historic Registry.  You can tour the home on Father's Day or by scheduling a tour.

    in Motivation

"Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not: nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. We've fallen far from what we were... Will we stand up for restoration?

    in Politics Conservative

Used to be America strived to be more American.

Today, America exists under a heavy-handed federal governemnt that seemingly wants to make us into something quite different.

The shift has been slow. At least it was in the past.

Friday, we'll pull some thoughts from a couple of presidential inaugurations from the last century to illustrate what we once were, and to show how far we've been pulled astray.

And we'll connect some dots with current events as well.

Efforts to fundamentally transform America and to rip it from its roots are now happening at a fast enough pace, with bold enough leaps, there are no longer excueses to deny what's taking place.

A former president once exhorted us to remember we are heirs to America's first revolution.

Are enough of us bold enough take his challenge, and demand we get our country back?
