Voice of the Turtle, Episode 4: this is your brain on baseball

    in Sports

In this episode of the podcast, HookSlide talks about baseball, brains, and your brain on baseball. Justin Verlander has certainly returned to dominant form, and just in case we were still on the fence about that, he just took a no-hit bid into the ninth inning in his last performance. Verlander's resurgence will certainly make General Manager Al Avila's job in 2016 a bit easier, because, hey, who can't build a decent starting rotation when you've got an ace like Verlander to be the cornerstone?

Going into weekend, the Tigers get to face the Toronto Blue Jays and their ridiculously good offense, and on the mound they'll be sending out ... Boyd, Farmer, and Simon? So who will get shelled the least?

At least one MLB team is making plans to extend the nets at the ballpark and do something to preserve fan safety from flying foul balls. Why are some people opposed to this?

In the final segment of the podcast, a licensed professional counselor who specializes in neurofeedback "brain training" talks about what EEG data can do for athletes looking to achieve peak performance, and explains what happens in the brain when a player gets angry and starts smashing water coolers.

Intro to Craft Beer with Amanda

    in Entertainment

Do you consider yourself a craft beer connoisseur? No? Well neither do I, but it's hard to deny the impact of these fancy beers on the market today. Lately everywhere you go you see liquor store coolers, shelves, and bars full of craft beer with all sorts of hipsters hanging out and discussing.

Are you looking to get into the craft beer movement, but don't know where to begin? You're in luck! I'm happy to welcome Amanda from The Great Beer Adventure Podcast @greatbeerwomen to the Bumming With Bobcat podcast this week to discuss an introduction to craft beer with all you fine listeners!

I have personally given a few craft beers a try in the past and things have been hit and miss. I never know what types to try or even what I should be looking at. This is quite a change from the usual bottom shelf I'm used to of bum wine, 40's, malt liquor, and cheap beer. I feel that it is time that we all join together and broaden our horizons to learn more about the world of craft beer.

We will be discussing  how the craft beer market is doing many creative things these days and how getting into it through your own favorite flavors will allow you entry into this very artistic movement.

What was named the BWB Beer Of The Week? Tune in to find out!

All that and MORE on this weeks episode! Want to be part of the show? The phone lines will be open and you are welcome to call in at 347-826-9598 to join in the discussion. Cheers!

Heroes of Katrina: 10 Years After: Vincent's...a Survivors Story of Success

    in Books

Vincent’s Italian Cuisine was founded in 1989 by native New Orleanian Vincent Catalanotto.  From a large, close Sicilian family, Vincent grew up eating wonderful food prepared by his parents who were both great cooks.  Vincent learned to love and appreciate food at an early age, and then spent most of his life working in the service industry, fueling his passion for the restaurant business while allowing him to hone his innate ability to create fabulous meals and to make people happy.

Vincent opened the first of his successful neighborhood restaurants in 1989.  The “little Italian place on the side street” quickly became Metairie’s hidden jewel.  Vincent developed a menu that showcases the finest and freshest ingredients available (in fact, there are no walk-in coolers or freezers at Vincent’s - produce, seafood, meats and cheeses are delivered fresh daily!)

Vincent opened a new restaurant in 1997 on St. Charles Avenue near the Riverbend, much to the delight of the Uptown community, which has since embraced Vincent’s Italian Cuisine as their favorite neighborhood restaurant.

The Vincent’s restaurants endured the ravages of Katrina and bounced back in excellence.  Today they are considered the best Italian restaurants in New Orleans…and some claim the best Italian restaurants in the country.  We love the abiance and hospitality.

Gretchen and I have discovered Vincent’s and it has become a home away from home…Vincent greets us by name, and takes care of us as if we were part of the family…We enjoy the hospitality at minimum, on biweekly basis.
